Chapter 1: The Outsider comes to the Senate

Act 1: The Victory

Alabama Special Senate Election Results (100% in):

Doug Jones: 52.3%
Roy Moore: 45.6%

The nation was shocked on December 12th, 2017, as were many Alabamians. The Republicans had lost what was previously thought, a safe Republican seat. Sexual Harassment allegations and other controversies caused the Republican candidate, Roy Moore to lose many support among the Alabama electorate, and the Republican Party Establishment. Polls had the Democrat, Doug Jones, seen as someone who "deserved" the seat up by many points. Although the Republican candidate was able to convert some of his former supporters back into active ones, the damage was done. At 11:40 PM, the Alabama Senate Race was officially called for the Democrat, Gordon Douglas "Doug" Jones.

Immediately after the projection, all the major media outlets went to the Doug Jones Campaign headquarters, Roy Moore was too shocked to deliver a concession speech. Only one line stuck with Alabamians, and the nation.

"...Thank you, Thank you so much Alabama!!! I promise I won't disappoint you! I'm gonna fight for the Common man, and for Alabama values!!! I will represent the best interest of every Alabamian, Republican, Democrat, Independent, anyone! Thank you, hopefully I won't disappoint you!!! I'm gonna to be the Outsider Senator!!!..."

The Next Senator from Alabama, Gordon Douglas "Doug" Jones

Chapter 1: The Outsider comes to the Senate

Act 2: The Outsider Senator

Doug Jones was inaugurated as a U.S Senator, on January 3rd, 2018. He, a democrat, had been elected to the Senate from Alabama. That was a dangerous sign for the Republicans come 2018. Of course, with this rare and highly unlikely victory, Democratic Leadership met with Jones, and gave him a seat on the Agriculture Committee for his full "compliance". The Senate Majority Leader tried to force positions on Jones, with House Minority Leader Pelosi in the room, so the Alabama Senator left. He wasn't going to "fall in line" to anyone. Reports of this came out, and he had around a 59% approval rating in Alabama. He started having a consistent, somewhat progressive record. He voted against the Tax Cuts, along with some Republicans, so it failed. Every bill that would harm the working class of Alabama, and the country, the Senator would vote against. He had kept his promise to be an outsider, and started making national traction, and in turn, Democrats courted him as a campaigner. He campaigned for Senate candidates, most specifically Jon Tester, Sherrod Brown, and Claire McCaskill. He campaigned in Iowa and New Hampshire. He campaigned for Southern House candidates, and most places he went, he started drawing crowds. Jones was new to the Senate, but he had made a name for himself as a moderate hero who could appeal to progressives, who had an independent streak. Some people started talking about a Jones candidacy for President.

Governor Feingold?

Sadly no, but you will see Feingold's name mentioned in this story at some point Wink

I'd actually think Indiana stays D.  Donnelly is one of the few Senate Democrats who's managed to keep himself above water.

Personally I think he stand a good chance for re-election, but he has to lose in this TL for it to make a bit of sense.. But since I'm assuming you're from Indiana, who do you believes gonna win the GOP primary? I think Rokita may.

If you're going to have Donnelly lose here, Messer is the more sane one.  Rokita is another Mourdock waiting to happen.

Hmm, thanks for the input, I don't know much about Indiana politics 😂

Chapter 2, Act 1: Presidential Contender?

The Democratic Party was wary of a Jones candidacy for President. He was seen as a moderate, and the party seemed to be leaning in the progressive direction. Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid decided to pay a visit to Senator Jones's office. He got right to the point. Booker, Cuomo, Gillibrand, etc were all seen as corrupt shady political hacks, while Sanders, Warren, Gabbard, etc were all "too progressive". The new year had started off with brand new entries into the Presidential race, as well as some that had declared in 2019, and 2018. In January, Doug called Harry back. He would set up an exploratory committee.

Democratic Candidates for President as of January 4th, 2019:

Fmr. Rep. John Delaney (2017)
Fmr. Gov. Martin O'Malley (September 4th,2018)
Fmr. Sec. Julian Castro (November 10th, 2018)
Fmr. Gov. Terry McAuliffe (November 29th, 2018)
Sen. Amy Klobuchar (Exploratory Committee, December 1st, 2018)
Gov. Andrew Cuomo (Exploratory Committee, December 9th, 2018)
Rep. Cheri Bustos (Exploratory Committee, December 10th, 2018)
Mr. Tom Steyer (Exploratory Committee formed in 2018, announcement came on December 17th, 2018)
Gov. Steve Bullock (Exploratory Committee, January 2nd, 2019)
Sen. Doug Jones (Exploratory Committee, January 4th, 2019)
