What if Ted Cruz had won the nomination and then had chosen fifth-placed Ben Carson as his running mate? Would Hillary have had to bear heavy losses among the African American community?

No.

I can see Colorado in play.

But it would look strange that the Democratic Party nominates two (more or less) Southern whites, while the GOP nominates a Hispanic and an African American.

Clinton/Kaine would have won outright.

None. Clinton probably would have won WI, MI, PA, FL, and ME-2 and had a shot at IA, OH, and NC

Agree except for NC and maybe IA. Drumpf really was the best they had in hindsight.

Nah, if anything, Cruz/Carson would have inspired more social conservatives to turn out and vote for McCrory.  Trump is the best thing that happened to Roy Cooper's political career.

That ticket would have been so hilariously inept and embarrassing. One for the history books.

No. Black voters are not mindless idiots who vote for anyone with their shared skin color. I'm sure Carson would have been used to keep black people at home by speaking "first hand" about how Hillary didn't care about black people.

You are probably right.

But the GOP would have lost Senate seats in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Missouri.

Flip Ohio and Iowa. Cruz has no appeal to the Rust Belt.

Possible Johnson could've won New Mexico/McMullin in Utah in this case.

As I've claimed many times before, Hillary would win OH (narrowly) against Cruz.
