Star Wars is a totally overrated franchise. Trek has its flaws, with its rubber faced aliens and the new garbage series out now, but both my parents are trekkies and don't you talk sh!t about them. Trek easily.

Trek for me. I have not bothered to see the most recent Star Wars movies because IMO, of the first six Star Wars movies, only the first two were good. After four disappointments, I didn't want to see any more.

Star Wars all the war, only the prequels were bad movies and even SW fans hate them, this new trilogy is turning out good. I never could get into Star Trek at all.

Star Wars.

The worst prequel is still lightyears ahead in quality from The Final Frontier, and No. 5 isn't even the oddest of the odd-numbered movies.

The best of Star Trek is better than the best of Star Wars, but the worst of Star Trek is worse than the worst of Star Wars. I'll abstain.

I have a fondness for the original Star Trek series, because my uncle had the Star Trek space ship on his desk. He did the special effects for the show in the beginning.

I know it's all personal preference but I don't think it's fair to judge Star Trek based on the movies. It's primarily a TV show franchise, not a movie franchise.

I grew as a Star Wars fan, and didn't pay attention to Star Trek until, say, a year or two ago. I prefer Star Wars myself because I don't buy Roddenberry's vision of the future (interesting as it is), but I don't see why both franchises and their fans should be at each other's throats.

So I prefer Star Wars myself, but I don't mind watching Kirk kicking the living ___ out of Klingons or Picard negotiating like a boss.

I hate when it becomes a battle between Star Wars and Star Trek. They're completely different things. Yes, they both take place in space and have Star in their name. That's it. I enjoy both in different ways. Even George Lucas admits that without Star Trek, Star Wars may not have been what it was. And without Star Wars, the Star Trek movies and new TV series may not have happened at all. Both are great. It's not some heresy to say that both are greatly enjoyable and have had a massive impact on our culture.

thank you, they are both excellent franchises and we should consider ourselves fortunate to be able to enjoy them both.

Excellent post. What's even sadder is when people try to argue which one has more advanced technology, as if that is relevant to anything at all.

I prefer Star Trek myself, but I have to acknowledge the influence that Star Wars had on The Wrath of Khan (the best Star Trek movie). For me to bash Star Wars or act like it's not a great franchise would be hypocritical.

You've got to admit... Trek never gets the attention, controversy, or deep feelings that Star Wars does. Simply not as many people care deeply about Trek.

Agreed, while I do prefer Wars, Trek has some redeemable qualities and I can enjoy both franchises.

I think it's more the fact that Star Trek has already been far more variable in quality, tone, and themes, so its fans are more open to change/more tolerant of bullsh*t than their Star Wars counterparts.
