I came across this Vox article and it got me thinking. Which do you prefer?

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/2018/1/8/16865532/2016-presidential-election-map-xkcd
https://twitter.com/AlanMCole/status/950415038506037254

1 - xkcd map. This is the one that the article was primarily about:

2 - Counties. Personally, I prefer this, admittedly for for its pleasant aesthetics

3 - NYT (1)

4 - NYT (2)

5 - Other (please specify in a post)

xkcd is a good map, but unfortunately 1) im colorblind and cant easily tell between "other" and "trump" stick figures, 2) the northeast is too crowded, needs to be cleaned up.

RI’s maps are the best, the NYT dot map with the margins is my second favorite (that’s 2012 though). The county maps (although the one in the OP is from 2012) are also very interesting to look at. All the maps have value.

Personally my favorite style of map is the Upshot/Nate Cohn version of the XKCD map. But alas, it only exists on a statewide level (I think these might actually be from 2014 Senate elections):

The first one because it shows how meaningless Trump's dominance of rural counties was

I like the first map because it shows us where most of the voters actually are, although the map could have been executed a bit better.
