Given the influence of the Feminist Left in today's Democratic Caucus, why wasn't this guy censured or primaried?

This guy was so powerful, a judge decided that signature filing deadlines didn't apply to him a few years ago.

I admire Conyers for his years of service, but I think that 2018 and 2020 will be his last years in the House.
Well, that's a given - if he's reelected in 2018 and 2020 by the end of his term it would be 2023 and he'd be 93 – that seems to be the cutoff age for Congressmen, they almost always retire (John Dingell) or lose (Ralph Hall).

oof, if Paul Ryan was covering up a democratic representative's issues this is gonna turn into a dumpster fire very quickly.

If Paul Ryan knowingly covered this up, I can't imagine how many more of these stories are about to break.

I don't like Ryan, but I don't know why he would knowingly cover this up. There is no political benefit for protecting Conyers.

If he is aware of systemic wrongdoing by republican reps and is nervous that any rep getting accused might embolden potential accusers of his caucus members, it would make sense.

I'm sure Ryan covered it up to protect other Republicans.

This, I am sure, is a bi-partisan problem.

This is the least surprising development of the year. The dude literally has always reminded me of the stereotypical mid-sixties inner-city pimp. The kind of sleazeball who'd get charged with transporting a minor over state lines (ala Chuck Berry) to "sing" in a "nightclub" type establishment.

Too bad, he was one of the better Democrats. Perhaps this is the Democrat Jackie Speier was talking about. I'll guess Blake Farenthold for the Republicans.

I thought she said that the two congressmen were long tenured? Farenthold has only been there for six years.

While Thurmond made it to 100, Ralph Hall at 91 and John Dingell at 90 were the only 2 representatives to serve in their 90s.

Maybe Farenthold was too obvious anyways.

I wouldn't go quite this far, but I'm not surprised either.  I'd heard some vague rumors a few years ago that Conyers had a history of sketchy behavior toward women.  He obviously needs to resign immediately.

Yeah, I’m not terribly surprised by this. He needs to GTFO.

I still feel like he'd be re-elected easily if he ran again.

I actually think he'd lose the primary if he did assuming he faces a credible opponent.  He only got 55% in the 2012 primary against badly divided opposition.

The sad reality is that there are probably many more like Conyers in Congress, with some probably doing things worse than him. The good news is that the public is finally getting to learn about who these people are, and hopefully they get what they deserve.

This am ok because muh GOP am pedophiles ...

Said no one ever. This old asshole needs to go, same as Franken. Remind me again which party has been frantically trying to paint Doug Jones as being a worse political choice than a literal pedophile?

Oh well... Our little moment of agreement was nice while it lasted.

I told that from the beginning. This is also the reason why Mitch McConnell and the other Republicans senators said nothing about the Al Franken allegations.

Dems do need to get rid of their fossils especially in the CBC, Reps who stay far too long blocking young talented leaders from rising up. Conyers should have gone a looong time ago, if anything comes of these scandals is hopefully some more forced retirements.

The most egregious thing in this case is that the settlement came out of taxpayer money. This is outrageous and needs to come to an end.

And, yes, Conyers needs to go.
