The sad thing is this still happens in the USA too. I’ve heard of people doing it to find drainage tiles in corn fields.

Why do you have such a massive inferiority complex about Europe?

Where do you think the charitable donation tax deduction mostly goes? Letting people spend government money on the witchcraft of their choice isn't better.

(Obviously stupid in all instances, though.)

Something that was (and is) an infinitely larger public scandal than a few workers seeking a little bit of magical assistance in what can be a pretty frustrating job. Ftr this sort of thing is very common in this sort of industry, and not just in the UK and it's invariably something some workers just do themselves because they think it works. There's no evidence that it does any harm. Anyway, the initial story was amusing, but it all seems to have turned into tedious class-bashing.

Have we considered further privatizing the process?

wait wait wait wait......wait......

water....like the kind that comes out of those magic metal things in the bathroom and kitchen.....is private in the UK and not in Omaha?  Mind.Blown.

do you have, like choices?  How could that possible work?  Who "owns" the pipes under the street?  the "private" company?  how the hell does that work?  water, because of the infrastructure required, is one of the few things where it makes some sense to be publicly owned.  Possibly more than anything else?

(ftr, I'm a little funked up and have been driving all day (much of it in the dark or driving into the sun), so my brain might not be operating at 100%)

no choices; private company for each region (fails to) run the infrastructure and sells water to people.  It doesn't work (shockingly!) yet Thatcher decided to privatise a natural monopoly for... some reason - shows how dedicated she was to selling off important state assets for peanuts really.

Its state owned in Scotland - indeed we don't have water charges and its a flat rate for everyone which I think is the right thing to do.

Then let’s just privatize the regulatory agency for water companies.

Better yet - let’s seize the means of production (water companies) and destroy it, selling the remnants as scrap metal and sending the profits towards DSA.

Do you have a point, or are you just spewing nonsense for its own sake?
