Imho, he is the only practical successor to Sherrod Brown. I think he is one of the only democrats left in Ohio who could (and probably would) win a statewide race in Ohio. And he is really one of our only (and frankly by far the best) chances to keep Sherrod's seat in Democratic hands after he retires.

The Democratic Party needs more people like Ryan, who, despite me disagreeing with some of their policies, seem to genuinely care about the poor and the working-class, and are willing to passionately stand up for what they believe in.

Ryan is the kind of guy who could beat Trump fairly easily. I just think at this point the democrats at a national level have abandoned working class whites and he wouldn't have enough of a base to become their presidential nominee (as he is neither the choice of the progressive base or the establishment, which doubtless still resents his challenging Pelosi). Could see him as Ohio's governor someday for sure.

Tim Ryan is pretty cool, even from my libertarian perspective, but the bad news for him is that he's in the wrong party.  He's 1) male, 2) white, 3) cisgender, and 4) straight.  That's four strikes against him in the identity politics-driven philosophy of the 2017 Democratic Party.

How absurd. A 70-some-year-old self-identified "Democratic Socialist" from Vermont won nearly half of the Democratic primary vote last year running against one of the most prominent members of the party. Joe Biden is currently the frontrunner in 2020 with Bernie Sanders in second - both of which are male, White, cisgender, and straight.

As for Tim Ryan, I really like that guy and place him at the top of my list of favored potential 2020 candidates alongside Sanders, Brown, and Warren. That speech was excellent and the Democratic Party would be in a far better situation if more of its members and candidates gave speeches like that.

He seems to be a good guy. I liked him more when he talked about cutting the corporate tax rate, and as others said, he seems pretty genuine.

What I would think is not important.

It is what the rust belt WWC would think.

I understand the Black, Latino, and left wings of the party would not like him.

If he could get the $ he could make a fair run.  I do not see how he get $.  Maybe he could do a shoestring campaign in Iowa.  But I do not see where he gets soldiers from.

His only chance is if you folks fail spectacularly in 18.

This is the first time I've seen him speak, and he definitely has the gusto and the punch for the job of leader.

Tim Ryan kissed whatever chance he had at being a future party leader goodbye when he went centrist post-2016.

I'm still pissed he passed up on running for Governor. Why does he think he has a better chance at running for President than Governor of his own state.

If Ginsburg doesn't croak and Kennedy doesn't leave there's no way no right winger doesn't vote Trump in 2020

He doesn't appeal to much besides Republicans and some Berniecrats who could cream their pants for any white male politician.

Tim Ryan/Catherine Cortez-Masto would be a strong ticket.

I would have no reservations about Ryan if only he didn't want to lower the corporate tax rate.
