We've fallen pretty far, even from the then-new depths of Clinton and Bush, but we're a long way from rock bottom. (And the Republicans are doing their all to make sure we get there.)

It's like this level of depravity was just science fiction a few years ago. It's like we're in an era of rapid  innovation in how mindlessly depraved one could be. Since Gingrich, the GOP has become the Manhattan Project, Microsoft, Human Genome Project, and Space X all rolled into one for assholes and special boys.

It was like the time I got really into Final Fantasy as a teenager and then started visiting internet forums for the game. There was a group of people who were banned from the forums for various petty reasons or their own adolescent awkwardness who eventually started trolling and calling themselves the Masters. Basically the goal of the Masters was just to troll everyone and inflict massive amounts abuse until no one would post anymore on the forums. Then they made their own forums where they would just ban people for not role playingv properly or something.

15 years later, replace gamers and "otaku" with society and the Masters (many of whom eventuallyg turned out to be various flavors of altRight when I last checked on them in like 2006) with the Alt-Right and GOP and youu can basically see the same dynamic and a case study on how these people have basically been degenerates since puberty.

America has, progressively, rejected Christian morality, to where it's routinely honored in the breach, and not in the observance.  Folks have rejected Biblical morality for reasons both leftist and rightist, insisting that their consciences be their guide.  Why do we need some Book telling us what to do?  Why can't we let our consciences be our guide?

The answer to that question is simple:  Our consciences have been seared to where they no longer function.  This has happened by the progressive regression of absolute rights and wrongs and the adption of situational ethics. 

The "me-too" movement is a result of one aspect of radical feminism coming into conflict with another aspect of radical feminism.  The Feminist Left joined with many of the Libertines in rejecting Biblical sexual morality as Victorian and oppressive.  Indeed, much of this meant that sex outside of marriage (even while married) became OK. 

The Feminist Left wants the Libertine aspect of morality in being able to do whatever they want to do, sexually, and not be questioned about it.  But sexuality involves searching out, propositioning, etc., it's often an act of much non-verbal communication where one party has to make the first move, and the first touch.  This involves the most uninhibited aspect of our being  Marriage was an institution God created to protect folks in this aspect of life; to set boundaries while allowing fulfillment, but this wasn't good enough for some.  We've removed these boundaries, and we wonder why there's an epidemic of grab-ass and propositioning in the workplace and other places, and even worse. 

I'm not defending non-consensual sexual behavior, not at all.  But God's plan was not "OK between consenting adults"; it was "Marriage is honorable in all and the marital bed is in no way defiled."  I believe that more than a little of today's problems come from our society blowing that off.

Marriage makes things easier for sure. The one reason why trying to encourage or require people in society to marry is that in this society, everry man and woman is responsible for finding who to be with. They are also responsible for finding their own way to make a living without help from their parents. Back in preindustrial times, the parents would try to arrange marriages for their children. Many churches still believe in arranged marriage and I had coworkers who had arranged marriages. However, this isn't as practical as it has been in the past as personal responsibility plays a much bigger role in our lives. We have to find our spouses on our own and figure out how we go about it.

Ultimately, no matter how you choose to live your life, you still have to read and respect boundaries. Reasonable people  make reasonable mistakes and learn from them. This is the one off the challenges of having to live in an unscripted society.
