Why would you have voted for Kennedy over Eisenhower?

Anyway, 2016, obviously.  Before that, though, probably Johnson in 1964 and then all the way back to FDR in 1942 as a "wartime vote."

Limiting myself to just the major party candidates, probably 1924.

1948 would've been a definite dem vote for me.

1960 and 1996 I would've briefly entertained voting democrat but ultimately wouldve voted Repub.

The last time I would've voted for the Republicans would be in 1904 (Teddy Roosevelt).

I would've voted for TR in 1912 and Fightin' Bob in 1924...but those are on the Progressive ticket, so they don't exactly count. I also definitely wouldn't have voted for neither Herbert Hoover nor Al Smith in 1928...but after that I would vote Democratic in every presidential election, with little hesitation except for the Clintons.

1976, would have supported Ford with great enthusiasm.

I would have voted Republican in 1996, had Dick Lugar been the nominee. He's a moderate, honest and likeable guy. Far more trustworthy than Billy.

2016 (duh). Before that I think I might have considered voting for the Dems in every election from 1996-2008 but eventually I probably would have voted Republican in all of them. In 1996 and 2000 I liked the Democratic candidates but I also liked the Republicans, by 2004 I would have soured a bit on Dubya but I probably would have hated Kerry. Obama's message of hope, change and bipartisanship might have appealed to me in 2008 but in the end he was just too left-wing and I liked McCain too much.

In the Netherlands I think I would have tactically voted for the Christian Democratic Appeal in 2003 to prevent the Labour Party from becoming the biggest party (and I liked Balkenende anyway), but I'd be an extremely safe VVD voter in nearly all other general elections. Other than that I probably would vote SGP (literally Christian right, but they're no hypocrites) in European elections because I really, really, really don't like ALDE group leader Verhofstadt. ALDE is far to the left of the VVD anyway, but there is no better fit for them (you don't want to be associated with the ECR Eastern European national conservatives in the Netherlands and lol at the thought of the VVD joining the EPP).

The last three for me are 1996 (Dole opposed many of Clinton's moralistic ideas), 1976 (Carter was a DINO), and 1960 (Nixon was more competent than Kennedy).

For the UK 1983, where without hindsight I would have voted for the SDP. The only situation I could see voting Tory would be a 2nd preference for London Mayor if Labour ran someone awful (although I would have happily voted for Red Ken in 2008/2012)

For the US I'm going to be boring and, like everyone say Eisenhower 1952. Interestingly enough Bobby Kennedy worked for Stevenson's campaign in '56 and still ended up voting for Ike.

Would probably have been a pissed off Kennedy Democrat in 1980 and flirted with voting for Anderson

1960 is the last time I would definitely have both voted Democratic and supported the Democrat over the Republican, though I might've cast a token protest McGovern vote in 1972 depending on what state I lived in at the time. Otherwise, I would've (for 2016, did) cast Libertarian votes in 1972/1976/2016, and generally preferred the D over the R in the latter two (speaking without hindsight; especially for 1976, events would've proved me to have been incredibly wrong about Carter).

Possibly 1892 for Cleveland.  If not in the 1876-1892 range, then never since the formation of the GOP.

Last General in which I would have voted R: 2004
Last Primary I voted R: 2016

Last General in which I would have voted D: 2012
Last Primary in which I would have voted D: Maybe 2008 (I somehow went Thompson --> Obama that year, don't ask me why), otherwise 1992. (I would never vote in a primary in which there is only one candidate, like 1996 D for example)

Well, I am uninterested in American history before 1896. But obviousuly I would have backed the anti slavery candidate.

But yes, the only republican nominee that I like is Hoover.
