As much as I wanted Hillary to be Clinton 45, she clearly was not the most electable candidate.

I'm not certain, but I think Biden would have defeated Trump.  In hindsight, the ideal Demicratic ticket would have been Joe Biden for President, and maybe Elizabeth Warren, Sherrod Brown, or Tammy Baldwin for Vice President.

What do you think?

well biden would’ve been a good choice for winning the election itself, but hillary was probably the best thing that happened to democrats in terms of their long-term prospects

Joe Biden.

Of the candidates that actually ran, I don't think any were particularly strong. Chafee and O'Malley were total jokes, Sanders is too risky due to the potential for an October Surprise, as well as his well known hard-left views. Clinton is boring and plagued by scandals and trust issues. Lawrence Lessig was basically a ghost candidate. Jim Webb could have potentially won, but his more moderate views would have turned off progressives. There really were no good options.

Barack Obama, to succeed the popular two-term president, Hillary Clinton, to whom he narrowly lost the nomination in 2008.

This.

Everything would've been better if WWC!Hillary had won instead of  Elite Stoner Obama. And Obama with his talent would've been able to better back his credentials AND once elected been crushingly effective.

Oh and Hillary would've left office with much higher approvals than Obama because she wouldn't have been so naive with Congressional negotiations.

Agree. If Clinton had won Dems would be obliterated in both the Senate and the House as well as state legislatures.

Someone like Klobuchar would've been a significant step up. Probably would've shored up the Upper Midwest somewhat, too.

Assuming Trump is still the GOP nominee: Biden, Sanders, or Webb, in that order.

Assuming a more typical GOP nominee like Rubio, Walker, or even Cruz: O'Malley, Biden, Webb, or Sanders, in no particular order.

It was very effective, until the last minute fear-mongering campaigns started. And those opponents were promoting Obamacare at the time, if in a half-hearted sense.

So yeah, obviously had more guts and teeth than ACA ever has.

I wish the field hadn't cleared like spooked cattle because of Clinton because we really should have had a full primary slate with more than five candidates (and only two with any support). I'll never not feel weird about how Clinton was pushed as inevitable by the Dems even before anyone else announced (like that letter all the female Dem senators wrote in 2013 pledging their support to her). I would have loved to have seen what the younger candidates without 30 years of Clinton baggage would have had to offer and how they could have stood up to Trump.

Hillary Clinton. She performed better than any other Democrat would have against Trump.
