Were you and your family members able to avoid the controversial talking points of American politics while you were feasting?

I know, by instinct, the liberal relatives, including me, sat at one end of the table while the conservative family members sat at the other end, but surprisingly, nobody really brought anything up. This is mainly because the 2016 election almost tore the family apart. How about all of you?

Yes because the entire table was me and my mother and we agree on pretty much everything.

Yes, we never talk about politics during Thanksgiving.

Yes, for the first time ever. Nobody has an appetite for it. My uncle and I briefly talked about Zimbabwe but that was it.

We had a very long thanksgiving party (from 4 pm -1am)

There wasn't a traditional thanksgiving dinner (since we are vegetarians )

So we had a lot snacks ,Mexican food ,soda throughout the party

My age group didn't talk about politics one bit as we were playing video games , watched some football, talked about life in general and then watched a movie

The dad group  though did talk about politics

Yes, by virtue of going nowhere near my cretinous extended family.

No.  I was the only one at the table that did not favor the immediate impeachment, conviction, and removal from office of Trump. I was the token "right winger" at the table. Smiley

Three at the table had this "app" on their cell phones that alerted them of each and every action Trump took during the day. Talk about masochism!

Definitely.  Way better things to talk about with your old grandparents when you're not sure how much time they have left.

Impeaching Trump was brought up for about 30 seconds.  Otherwise, no politics.

Though, my cousin did pull me aside later in the day to tell me that her 14-year-old granddaughter had come out of the closet.

My uncle sent us a link to an article about Thanksgiving and genocide. I replied, asking if there were any Frantz Fanon fans in the groupchat.

It was just me, my mom, her friend and my friend. Everyone was some sort of leftie. There's really no way to have a long dinner with me and not talk about politics, but everything this time was entirely copacetic.

Yes. Moore was brought up by one of the two people I was watching. I got it shut down within three minutes though.

Mostly, but I was unlucky enough to have a family that was at each others throats without religion or politics being mentioned.

Well, I only had dinner with my girlfriend and we agree on most political issues, plus we don't really talk much about politics.

Surprisingly yes. There was a but before and after dinner, but much less than I expected. A bit of political innuendo slipped though as well, but all were able to keep it at that.

Yes, which is a bit surprising given how rabidly pro-Trump both sides of my family are.

My Thanksgiving was spent with fellow Coastal Academic Bubble denizens, so we were all to eager to discuss politics.

For the most part, I only briefly brought up Trump with my sister and her husband whom were sitting at my side of the table, and they are both anti-Trump so it made for agreeable conversation.
