From 1944, when Dewey won Fairfax, until Kerry's victory in 2004, the only Democrat to win the county was LBJ in 1964. But Clinton considerably narrowed the gap, as he won over suburban whites who had previously voted GOP because of the Democrats' weakness on taxes, crime, and foreign policy. In 1988 HW Bush won Fairfax by 22.8 points. In 1992 he won it by just 2.7 points, Dole won it by 1.6 points, and W Bush in 2000 won it by 1.4 points. In 2004 the dam officially burst, with Kerry winning Fairfax by 7.4 points. It goes without saying that Obama and Clinton did far better, and there are no signs that Fairfax will go to the GOP anytime soon.

All suburbs are different, which shouldn't even need to be said ... but yes, Fairfax shows no signs of going Republican anytime soon.
