It should be women in general. We have the million women's march, Sally Yates, Kellyanne, and of course  the metoo movement

It should be Kim Jong Un, just to troll all these people who mistakingly believe becoming "Person of the Year" is supposed to be a honor or an award.

The correct answer is Xi. Trump got it last year, Mueller only exists as a spectre at present even with the ensnarement of Flynn (but will presumably make his move soon), #MeToo is a worthy contender but non-persons being awarded the title annoys me (and again has not achieved any tangible results beyond a few scalps: whether Hollywood/business/politics/society will actually make changes to end the scourge of sexual harassment besides taking out a few individuals and leaving the gross system that let those individuals off the hook for so long is debatable), the Crown Prince is more of a showman than anything else and Kaepernick was more important last year.

The role Xi is playing in the world's most populous country and most powerful political party is very important though; and it's a definitely a huge change from the era of relatively anonymous bureacrats like Hu Jianto.

Should indeed be Xi. Probably will be the #MeToo movement, women, victims of sexual abuse or something similar.

The #MeToo Movement would be fair.

Mueller would also be nice to troll Trump.

Mueller can get it once he completely dismantles the Trump regime.

Mohammed bin Salman just won the readers poll, but who do you think will win the award of Time's shortlist?

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Kaepernick or Bob Mueller, but #MeToo seems especially poignant.

I don't see how #MeToo could be PERSON of the year.

I mean, The Protester was Person of the Year in 2011, and The Ebola Fighters got the title in 2014...so it's not exactly unprecedented. Time has given the award to groups of people before.

They likely won't say "#MeToo" is the person of the year, but rather "sexual assault victims"

But "The Protestor" and the Ebola doctors were actual people. #Metoo is just a societal idea that has recently gained support and traction after Weinstein's accusations.

Jeff Bezos
The Dreamers
Patty Jenkins

Kim Jong Un
Colin Kaepernick
#MeToo
Robert Muller       -
Mohammed bin Salman

Donald Trump
Xi Jinping

I think the only true serious contenders would be Bezos, Kim Jong Un, Trump and Jinping. I'd lean towards Kim Jong Un or Jinping.

I expect #MeToo to win, but hashtags aren't people. Either Xi or especially Kim should be Person of the Year for 2017.

It won't be Kim Jong Un. TIME never picks anyone who's an enemy of the United States...which in the new owners twisted logic also eliminates Mueller...and should eliminate Bin Salman.

If I had to guess, it will be #MeToo, unless the new owners show their true colors and force Trump to be named Person of the Year.

So I think we should refrain from naming the US president Person of the Year multiple times (I know there is precedent). But trump would probably be the PotY every single year he's president with how relevant he is. We need to think beyond that easy choice. I think of these options, I only see 3 worthy picks.

Jeff Bezos   I guess, but I feel like there are more grave issues in 2017 than Amazon.
The Dreamers   I feel like The Dreamers haven't even been the top story in immigration this year.
Patty Jenkins I had to look up who she was....
Kim Jong Un Nothing has really changed.
Colin Kaepernick While he started the kneeling movement, I feel like the greater movement really had little to do with him.
#MeToo Idk about "#MeToo", but I think the sexual assault awareness movement has defined our society and culture in 2017.
Robert Muller Not his year, but its looking good for him next year.
Mohammed bin Salman Big global player, but I feel like his impact won't be felt much outside of Arabia
Donald Trump See above
Xi Jinping Possibly, but Time would really have to do a good job explaining how what Xi is doing in China will affect the rest of us.

That's a relief. I was worried about this guy.

This, lol. Times sometimes names terrible people PotY and that makes sense.
With that said, I think it should be #MeToo. It's not just a hashtag, it's a large group of sexual assault victims speaking out, and they defined 2017 in many ways.
