Klobuchar has noticeably stopped short of calling on Franken to resign, instead saying that she has spoken with him and is confident he will make the right choice: fox9.com/news/sen-amy-klobuchar-confident-franken-will-make-the-right-decision

Those in Klobuchar's circle have said she's thinking of running. Do you think this could hurt a potential 2020 campaign?

Slightly yes, will not be a good talking point for her if an opponent wanted to go there.

It will destroy her among female voters, among which she's probably competing with Gillibrand, Warren and Harris (at a minimum), but it could help her a little with male voters.

The reactions on Twitter have not been what I expected. Most of the responses (most of them from women, surprisingly) seem to be angry at her for not supporting Franken: https://twitter.com/amyklobuchar/status/938488422490132481?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet

Stop. Nobody will care about this in 2 months, much less 2 years.

Would be pretty petty to go after her on that. But politics is pretty petty.

And it's getting pettier. I think I overestimated when I wrote this earlier. After looking at the social media reactions, people either don't care or are mad that she isn't supporting Franken. I can see someone, maybe Gillibrand, try to make an issue of it but I think Klobuchar could shrug it off ("He was a close friend and colleague for nearly a decade, and it was a difficult decision. I supported the ethics investigation and, speaking to him in private the day before his announcement, knew he'd make the right decision." Something like that). Like IceSpear said, most will likely not even care or remember it. We're a nation with a short memory span and I'm sure Trump will be at the front of our minds, for better or worse.

She was never going to be the nominee to begin with.

I never said she would be. I was just wondering if people thought this would have an effect on a potential campaign.

If Klobuchar doesn't win the nomination, it won't be because of this.

Also check out the comments on Gillibrand's FB post calling on Franken to resign:

https://www.facebook.com/KirstenGillibrand/posts/10155471770513411

The commenters overwhelmingly disagree with her, and say that Franken is the victim of a witch hunt:

Usually, saying 'both sides do it' is dishonest and wrong. But this time, it definitely isn't. Terrible.

Klobuchar isn't going to be the nominee, so no difference.

Klobuchar was interviewed by CNN about it: http://www.cnn.com/2017/12/08/politics/amy-klobuchar-senate-al-franken-minnesota/index.html

There will be a lot of people running who won't be the nominee and the decisions they make will have them fluctuating in the polls and affect votes. This is worth talking about.
