the bolded words don't make sense.  "semi-automatic" is a way a gun functions (one round for every pull of the trigger, ie, most guns) and has nothing to do with power.  Non semi-autos include revolvers, bolt action and fully automatic.  Any of them can be more or less powerful than any random semi-auto.  Fully autos are technically legal, but impossible to get in most places and really really hard in the others.  And then you have to spend an ass ton of money to buy one.

We need an extremely strong and thorough background check system, and a waiting period for buying guns + anyone who has committed a violent crime or has a history of mental illness should absolutely not be allowed to purchase any firearms. Otherwise I am opposed to gun control.

Overall, this is one issue I've begun shifting to the right on about a year and a half ago (I use to strongly support all sorts of Gun Control). I still strongly support Universal Background Checks and closing the gun show loophole, but living in the Chicago land area, I can tell you any other "Control" Measures aren't going to do sh**t.

What?? You obviously have a lot to learn about guns. More powerful than a semi-automatic?? What caliber? Your statement makes no sense.

I believe that the right to bear arms is a fundamental American freedom. Of course, there need to be background checks to ensure weapons don't get into the wrong hands. Besides that though, the government should not be in the business of dictating which kind of guns are acceptable and which aren't.

I'm opposed to this kind of thinking^^ about the 2nd Amendment: that people need guns to be able to shoot at government officials who intend to confiscate their guns. If all three branches of the federal government have decided to ignore the 2nd Amendment and confiscate guns, the right way to react to is comply, not rebel and get violent. I think it was Abe Lincoln who said that in a democracy there is no successful appeal from the ballot to the bullet.

You stated the issue exactly right, but came to the wrong conclusion. When government  ignores and abuses the rights of its citizens, that is when the citizenry has a duty to resist. It was Thomas Jefferson who wrote on how the people should respond when government engages in this kind of abuse, saying "it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government".

In Israel, I support the current situation- there is NO gun you have a 'right' to buy without having, you know, a lisence to hold that deadly weapon. And indeed, we don't have many shootings. Go figure.
In America I'm ready to accept the gun culture, but there should be universal background checks, no concealed carry (why the hell would you want to conceal your gun if you aren't up to something?), no automatic or assault guns without a lisence (NO ONE needs them to hunt or defend his property. No one.), and other measures. It's time to start getting rid of the plague that is shootings, and as you can see in other nations, gun control is effective.

I support universal background checks, including gun shows and the internet. I'm not sure how much banning bump stocks will actually help, but not opposed to it. Fully automatic weapons are already illegal and should remain illegal. Nothing else beyond that. Magazine Limits or similar is definitely unconstitutional, and an assault weapons ban is constitutionally dicey.

I support background and mental health checks + bump stock bans.
I support the concealed carry reciprocity act that recently passed the House
I oppose a ban on AR-15s or on high capacity ammunition.
I am usually aligned with the NRA.

Overall, pretty supportive of the 2nd Amendment.
