How is that rationalized? Are there people who feel marginalized because inappropriate behavior is exposed? Does anyone actually vote based upon that unpleasant and improbable hypothetical.

You're asking if there'll be a backlash to exposing sexual assaulters?

Neckbeards and anti-feminists will always turn good developments like this into their rallying cry and somehow make it so they're the oppressed and harassed ones. Unenlightened men will always find a way.

Are these people relevant?

I don’t think neckbeards vote for Democrats. Especially considering who is in the White House

Of course, I wasn't trying to say that there were, nor was I saying men in general would adopt this movement. All I was saying is that there is a significant population of men who would launch such a nasty ass hashtag movement, probably on Reddit and Twitter.

Among Republicans, it's possible that their female candidates in 2018, like Blackburn On the other hand, Democrats probably be affected as much, though it still could hurt them in states like Wisconisn in 2018, where Baldwin will likely face a male opponent.

It's too soon to tell about 2020 on the Democratic side, and it will only matter among Republicans if Trump doesn't run and someone like Nikki Haley/Susana Martinez/Kelly Ayotte/Kay Ivey/Kim Reynolds enters the race.

If we start seeing several fraudulent accusations then there could be a backlash against that.

If the punishment doesn't fit the crime (Franken) & everyone is lumped into 1 category... it will not be just male voters (anecdotally from what I'm hearing... as well as my thoughts on the matter).

I think the Franken call & press conference will prove to make Gillibrand more unelectable ... rather than more electable.

Yes, 100 percent. The moment somebody gets punished for an accusation that turns out to be false, the entire movement will collapse. Come on, people, we've seen this before with the Rolling Stone article that did immense damage to the efforts to fight rape and assault on campus. I think there are other things that could lead to a backlash as well, such as some sort of publicized, far-reaching corporate policy at a big company that tried to pre-empt sexual assault (rather than reacting to a specific event).

I'm not saying this to be an edgelord men's rights activist; this is something that a lot of feminist social critics and writers (e.g., Rebecca Traister) are predicting.

The vast majority of accusations recently have had solid evidence backing them up. If a major accusation that someone gets punished for turns out to be false, then that will cause people to look at those sorts of accusations more critically, but it shouldn't harm the movement as a whole unless there was a massive conspiracy or something.

If this becomes an anti-male witch hunt; then yes and rightly so.  Women should be believed as so far in they should have their cases investigated and tested by the legal system.

Democrats better make sure this #metoo movement doesn’t turn into a finger pointing contest where women accuse famous men in a quest for fame and fortune. If this happens Democrats could lose many high-profile male incumbents next year due to false accusations peddled by conservative media (Ie. Fox News, Breitbart, and the Drudge Report) and trump will coast to reelection, also this will have the sad consequence of hurting women who really are abused in the workplace by making their stories less believable. Finally before everyone calls me a sexist, I eagerly voted for Hillary Clinton last year and am a strong supporter of abortion rights and empowering women in the workplace.

Absolutely. The feminist movement is drifting to extremes, #antipatriarchy is becoming #antimale.
