Bill decides not to run for President and retires from politics in 1991. Hillary Clinton runs for a wins the Arkansas senate seat being vacated by Dale Bumpers. George H.W. Bush wins re-election against Paul Tsongas 48.7% to 46.5% and an electoral college win of 285 votes.

Hillary Clinton runs in 1996 and defeats Jerry Brown and Joe Biden in the Democratic primaries and faces off incumbent Vice President Dan Quayle.

How would this look, post with maps and/or explanations.

279 Clinton
259 Quayle

Im not very educated on the state-by-state intricacies of 90s era politics, but I imagine it would be similar to the real 1996, but much closer due to the ~relatively successful economy and latent sexism against Hillary. So this is the result, with PA being the tipping point state

Why does Clinton even get as far as she does without Bill?

I'm actually tempted to say Quayle would win a narrow victory, the economy was doing well under President Bush in this scenario (1996) and Hillary isn't particularily likeable, so I think without a major scandal I'd go for Quayle.
