If I was a religious man, I'd be a Catholic, no question.

HC because all churches automatically are, but easily one of the best and least objectionable churches because they actually put their money where their mouth is when it comes to social justice.

On top of that the current Pope is a massive FF and will probably go down in history as the single person most responsible for turning back the tide (no pun intended) on the climate crisis and saving the world. If he lives long enough, he'll set the table for the gay acceptance that's coming within the next 2-3 popes.

According to many posters here, that wouldn't be your choice to make.

Nobody disputes that people can join the Church, just whether people can "really" leave?

I am a Protestant, so obviously, I have major disagreements with some Catholic teachings.

That said, there are several issues on which they have consistently gotten it right, which I must commend them for. For example, Catholics formed America's first pro-life organization, while some Protestant denominations - including the Southern Baptist Convention - actually WELCOMED Roe v. Wade.

This.  Catholics as people generally aren't bad (I know a fair number of both current and ex-Catholics), but doctrinally they are an HC.  Salvation by works, intercessory prayer by the saints, purgatory, inclusion of the Apocrypha, opposition to all forms of contraception, papal authority, confession of sins to a priest--the list goes on and on.

Like other churches, I just don't buy in, but it makes more sense to me than the others, plus the pope is great!

You like the Pope? "Neoliberal friendly" is not something I would ever use to describe him.

yeah, I don't understand this romantic idea left leaning non-Catholics have for the current Pope...sure, he's 4% better than the average Pope, but he's still the leader of the Catholic Church and all the baggage that comes with.

I love how you take the idea of the Pope not being "neoliberal friendly" and conclude that leftists shouldn't like him.

Problematic social views aside, if Pope Frank were ever to run for office in the United States, he would be denounced as a communist.
