Well, this is a tough one. Normally, I would have chosen the libertarian in a hypothetical match-up like this. However, Bono would privatize law enforcement and the court system, which means that any protection of individual rights would become meaningless. Absolute anarchism is just as unfortunate as authoritarianism, I think.

Therefore, although his views on social and economic policy are very different from mine: Preston.

I would not get the most extreme stuff out in order to be able to pass the less extreme stuff.
I'm an incrementalist, which is completely diffeent of compromising.
political suicide doesn't help the cause.

I realize the comparison may be inaccurate, but we've already had several Presidents just like Preston.  Whereas we've had nobody like Bono.
Thomas Jefferson, perhaps?

I would have never purchased Louisiana.
Maybe one of the Presidents of the United States in Congress Assembled.

Well, I think that Preston could do more damage than Bono could.  People and Congress are always sympathetic to causes like education, welfare or Medicare, and if Bono wants to get rid of all this and more, then he’s gonna have a hard time doing it.  But he might be able to do something’s, and at least slow down the ever expanding Government, so he gets my vote.
