Trumps endorsement won't have that much effect unless trump actively campaigns for cox if he does cox likely smokes Allen and gets a larger share of the GOP vote and is guranteed a spot in the runoff

I thought Trump would endorse Allen.

Me, too. He's the more Trumpist candidate, but Cox has a better shot for the run-off. Maybe Trump hopes for Allen to drop out and to ensure Cox the second round.

I like the new video on Instagram how Gavin Newsom already attacked Cox ("endorsed by his hero Donald Trump"). Hope it will be Newson vs. Cox in November. I think Newsom would then go on to crush Cox bigly.

@realDonaldTrump

California finally deserves a great Governor, one who understands borders, crime and lowering taxes. John Cox is the man - he’ll be the best Governor you’ve ever had. I fully endorse John Cox for Governor and look forward to working with him to Make California Great Again!

As for how this impacts the race, I dunno

LOL at Trump dissing Reagan.

I bet Trump doesn't even know that the Gipper once was governor.

Allen will not drop out. Even if he did, he couldn't be removed from the ballot.

Allen bites back with an ad reminding people that Cox didn't vote for Trump

What if Newsom doesn't make the top-two???

if its Chiang vs. Cox that would be terrific, as Newsom AND Villarigosa deserve humiliation.

What happens if Newsom gets MeToo'd before the primary?

Delanie Eastin & Amanda Renteria gain dual endorsements from Emily's List, causing ED & Democrat voters to surge in support of the women and propel them to the top two.

Seriously, his affairs got mentioned during the debates and TV ads, but aren't making any impact. Travis Allen brought it up during the NBC debate and looked just as bad for attacking Newsom.

Unless there's molestation/abuse charges coming in the next 2 weeks, he'll be fine on June 5

While I'd like for Chiang to win; I'd rather the race end up DvD with Chiang winning rather than DvR with Chiang winning.

oh of course.

To answer the question, I'd be pretty surprised if the top two wasn't Newsom v. Cox.

Villarigosa or Chiang have a small chance of making it.

...do you know something we don't? I'm not trying to be flippant, but it's an awfully direct thing to get hung up on, and a rather unlikely occurrence at this rate.

No. I just thought about Roy Moore and wondered if there would be a similar shocking surprise.

I don't see a path for Chiang to make the runoff. I'm pretty sure at this point that it will be Cox vs Newsom.

Yeah. I'm still voting Chiang, but unless he gets some serious momentum, I don't think he can pull off second.

Same. I still think there is a narrow path for villa, though it requires polls so far to be inaccurately sampling Hispanics do to both the language issue and the huge size of the state. Not impossible, but hard.

Same. Newsom's my second choice though and I don't want Villaraigosa to advance

That's a good point. He's had some serious ups and downs in the polling without anything major happening. This is one of the most boring campaigns ever. Poor Spanish polling could explain some of Villaraigosa's numbers. He's at least a shoo-in in Imperial County.

Newsom  vs Cox runoff it seems, and Wulfric will be forced to finally change his rating to Safe D.

Just got a mailer from the AV campaign encouraging Republicans to vote for him as he represents the most moderate candidate with a chance to beat the liberal Newsome. It basically said neither Cox nor Allen would have a chance vs Newsome so might as well vote AV to help get him into the runoff.
