Newsom is the favorite, but there is a long ways to go. I have a feeling his previous affair will be brought up and it could cause his poll numbers to slip. I do think a California megathred should be created so there aren't so many individual posts.

That'd work if he's in the top two with anyone but Villaraigosa

ERM64man, I wanna know some of your predictions on this race...

- Will the primary be close? Who finishes in the top 2?
- How will Chiang & Eastin do in the primaries?
- Who do the remaining 20-25% of undecided primary voters move to?
- Will someone other than Newsom or Villaarigosa win counties? If so, which ones?
- Which candidate stands the best chance of defeating Newsom?
- What would Newsom vs Villaraigosa/Chiang/Eastin/Allen runoffs look like to you?

California Police Chiefs Association & the California Peace Officers Research Association jointly endorsed Villaraigosa.

Among the reasons were Newsom's strong support for Props 47 (Reduce nonviolent crimes to misdemeanors), 63 (Gun control) and 64 (Marijuana legalization).

As well as Mayor Villarigosa's actions to prevent law enforcement cuts during the Recession

Forgive my nitpicking, but do we need an update whenever another one of the 70+ candidates enters this race?

Newsom is getting tired of the whole debating thing:

I'm curious have you seen any ads on TV for this race yet. The first campaign add I saw was on Saturday on ESPN and it was for Republican Cole Harris for Lieutenant Governor.

From the Inland Empire, haven't seen any advertising for this race. No TV ads and the campaign signs here have been for Sheriff and Assembly races

It looks like Newsom finally decided to attend another debate. The Silicon Valley Community Foundation and NBC Bay Area will host “Decision 2018: The Race for Governor,” a debate among candidates running for California governor, on May 8. The debate will be moderated by Chuck Todd, NBC News’ Political Director and Moderator of “Meet the Press.” It will be shown live on NBC Bay Area at 6:30 PM and other affiliates across the state. The top 6 candidates will be participating.

This was confirmed a month ago to be his next debate appearance

CA GOP Convention just held their endorsement vote. Cox gets 55% to Allen's 41%, falling short of the 60% needed for a party endorsement

I don't think any action was taken on the Senate race. Here's the other endorsements:

Lt. Governor:  Cole Harris
Attorney General:  Steven Bailey
Secretary of State:  Mark Meuser
Controller:  Konstantinos Roditis

For all those Democrats on here that think basically every California statewide race will be D vs D, remember that voter participation in primaries is usually terrible and Republicans usually have higher turnout rates than Democrats.

Living next to Pete Aguilar's district, I'm certainly aware of that

@realDonaldTrump

California finally deserves a great Governor, one who understands borders, crime and lowering taxes. John Cox is the man - he’ll be the best Governor you’ve ever had. I fully endorse John Cox for Governor and look forward to working with him to Make California Great Again!

3:00 PM PST - 18 May 2018

As for how this impacts the race, I dunno

What happens if Newsom gets MeToo'd before the primary?

Delanie Eastin & Amanda Renteria gain dual endorsements from Emily's List, causing ED & Democrat voters to surge in support of the women and propel them to the top two.

Seriously, his affairs got mentioned during the debates and TV ads, but aren't making any impact. Travis Allen brought it up during the NBC debate and looked just as bad for attacking Newsom.

Unless there's molestation/abuse charges coming in the next 2 weeks, he'll be fine on June 5

I don't see a path for Chiang to make the runoff. I'm pretty sure at this point that it will be Cox vs Newsom.

Same. Newsom's my second choice though and I don't want Villaraigosa to advance
