Newsom will steamroll any of these chumps. He’s way too good looking, charming, and articulate. He survived a scandal where he f**ked his campaign manager’s wife for Gods sake. Nobody will survive the Newsom wave. Get that Chiang BS outta here lol.

Then why did he almost lose to the Green Party candidate when he first ran for Mayor?
To be fair that was his very first race and he hasn't come close to losing office since then.

I tend to vote against police unions, so I’m rooting for the Newsom/Chiang run off.

San Franciscans, and both were in Willie Brown’s orbit. Unsurprising.

I don’t want Republicans coming out to vote, though. It’ll hurt Dems in close House and Assembly races.

An even better strategy for the GOP is to start running exactly 2 strong candidates in every race, and hope that the Democrats run 3+. Then results like this could happen (not that I think it will in this race, mainly because Newsom is too strong):

1. Allen 17%
2. Cox 17%
3. Newsom 16%
4. Villaraigosa 16%
5. Chiang 12%
6. Eastin 10%
7. Renteria 7%
Others 5%

Just like that, nearly 2 times fewer R votes than D votes, and yet the runoff is R vs. R.
Lmao Travis Allen and John Cox are not strong candidates by any stretch of the imagination.

Because he wasn't the strongest GOP candidate?

Wait so the main Republican in the race is running as a progressive? Wtf?
No. This is a thing Republicans in Maine do, too. Paul LePage was a publicly financed candidate for god’s sake.

He’s still gonna make the runoff. Most money, establishment support, etc.

Because he wasn't the strongest GOP candidate?

He would've been in a general election
The GOP candidate is not getting more than 40% of the vote. Unless you think that Allen or Cox will get significantly less than that (which I don’t, I think that’s the GOP’s floor and cieling).

Chiang running for Gov instead of LG seems like a tragic misstep...he had to have known that Newsom and Villaraigosa would run, and he should've known he lacked the money and name rec to take them on. He could've run for LG, and set himself up for 2026.

What is Allen's deal is he really moderate and just faking right now?

Travis Allen is sadly my assemblyman (with Dana Rohrabacher as my congressman as well Sad). He’s more moderate than his rhetoric right now suggests. He’s trying to rally the MAGA crowd to his side first to make the runoff.
It's really sad to watch both Allen and Cox fighting for the right wing vote when both are more moderate than that and in order to actually have a shot there going to have to go more towards the middle if one of them makes it to the final election.
Man, neither are going to actually have a shot to become Governor of California in a Trump midterm.
