West Virginia used to reliable democratic since FDR. Voted for Dukasis over H.W. Bill Clinton won the State twice comfortably. Evan as recently as 2004 West Virginia was seen a battleground. Should Dems go after those blue collar votes or is it a lost cause.

So today in Atlas we saw a crap ton of threads about a celebrity who isn't going to run and now we have a couple of West Virginia threads.

Seems atlas never changes.

No, and I wouldn't be shocked if West Virginia is one of only two states where Trump's share of the vote increases (the other being Maine).

Dems should organize everywhere. Leave no state without Democratic infrastructure. That being said some investment will be less than others.

No, but the margin will be narrower this time (though not by much, Trump probably wins this in the mid 30s vs 42).

No. I'm from there, and it isn't worth it this election. If the democrats nominate a Klobuchar or Brown type, have them campaign there as a stop between Ohio and Pennsylvania, which we actually need to focus on.

Only if Don Blankenship is the GOP nominee against Manchin and Trump stumps for him.

Any other scenario, make the minimum investment required to still have an infrastructure.

This state is irrelevant to a Democratic electoral win in the 21st century.

Not unless Joe Manchin is the nominee, or a tape is released of Trump calling West Virginians dumb hicks.

They'll probably be chased out of the state for daring to run against the Fuhrer.

No, although Democrats are likely to get some sort of dead cat bounce now that the state is solidly Republican at every level, yet the coal jobs still aren't coming back and mines and coal-fired plants are continuing to close.

Why even state that? It's not like it would EVER happen. And there's a good chance Manchin won't even win re-election, much less be able to beat West Virginia's God Emperor in a head to head nationalized presidential race.

Haha. Oprah is a black, you see.

Not unless Joe Manchin is the nominee, or a tape is released of Trump calling West Virginians dumb hicks.

He'd still win in a landslide even if BOTH of those happened, lol.

No, swings that massive don't happen in US politics.  Maybe at the state level or for congressional seats perhaps, but to take in the presidential election, forget it.  The Democrats will be lucky if they just win a single county in the state.  Of the states Obama didn't win in 2012, Arizona, Georgia, and North Carolina are the only ones I can realistically see the Democrats winning.  Texas is possible but a long shot, but with demographic changes it will probably be in reach by 2030 maybe sooner if the GOP continues to swing further to the right.  Also the Democrats should consider not putting up a candidate in Utah if an independent similar to Evan McMullin runs and instead throw their support behind the independent candidate and urge their voters to vote for him or her as Trump is not popular in Utah, but the state won't go Democrat so that is one issue they should consider.
