Imagine a great, Republican, like Ronald Reagan but much better, not making any mistakes.

Now imagine a great Democrat, like Obama or Bill Clinton but much better, not making any mistakes.

Who do you prefer?

There is no such thing as a good Republican, let alone a "perfect" one.

Then there is no such thing as a perfect (or good) democrat.

I'm asking you to imagine there was a perfect candidate for each.

What does perfect mean here? Aligns 100% with party ideas? Has all positive attributes? Runs a perfect campaign? Has a perfect Presidency?

I imagine it's up to us individually to determine what a perfect Republican/Democrat is. Obviously, as a  conservative Republican, no Democrat could be perfect because their ideology would never conform with mine.

Hmm...there should probably be a limit to the number of "maverick" positions the "ideal" can have--otherwise both of my ideals would be identical to me, just that they've split with their party on different things to get there Tongue

Honestly, a good Democrat would be a progressive left winger, and a good Republican would be a libertarian. At that point, it would be respectable debate.

Then we'd need a party for the perfect social conservative.

The perfect Democrat in my opinion would be a more borderly secure Mike Gravel, or someone in his sphere of policy similarity. The perfect Republican would be a Progressive Republican from the Pre-1930 Political arena. A modern day progressive (like that one running in Arkansas) would be equally as good. A Eisenhower Republican or a Paulite libertarian (Ron more then Rand) would also be as good.

Mix of Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, and Reagan would make the Perfect President.
