The Blacksburg Gazette interview with Socialist leader Anthony Milton.
Recently, Lamarna National University has slipped in its ranking of global universities. This has been correlated by what many consider a steady decrease in the quality of education throughout Lamarna. Wealthy families are even choosing to send their children to boarding schools in the United States, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, as well as universities in the rest of the world. The previous administration had raised the cost of tuition at public universities to increase revenue due to fewer students applying. Now many are claiming that a college education is "beyond reach" for many less affluent families. What solution does the Socialist Party present to combat this "crisis of education"?
[/quote]

"It is absolutely heartbreaking that many young Lamarnans are afraid that a post-secondary education is out of their reach. That's why a Socialist government plans on making the Lamarna National University absolutely free for students whose families make more than 175% of the national poverty line. For most families, that means those who make less than $60,000 can send their kids to Lamarna National University for free. In order to do this, we will increase funding for the LNU with a .8% tax increase on stock trading and a 2% increase in capital gains and inheritance taxes.

This is a necessary step so we can avoid the so-called 'brain drain' that has impacted Lamarna for the past decade. It probably sounds like we're promising the world. Universal healthcare and free college. But this is what a society needs in order to make sure everyone reaches their full potential. The youth of Lamarna has always been our greatest asset. We must do everything in our power to make sure young people stay here, start businesses here, invest here."

MP Alfie Morgan arrives in Kahana

May 14 Morning: In a conference outside his Morganville estate, MP Morgan addresses the Kendall Park harassment incident, a note of uncharacteristic anger just coloring his usual affable, incisive surface.
"These men must be captured and promptly deported, as must anyone else who would disrespect our law and our people in such a way, and our refugee intake must be ended as soon as practicable. The idea that we should be expected to allow lawless foreign thugs to commit indignities upon our people, in particular Lamarnan women, is in equal parts disgusting and utterly absurd."

May 14 Evening: Resting ahead of plans for an expansive campaign in the Southern Islands, MP Morgan and his family attend a local theatre performance, followed by dinner.

May 15 Morning: Following a chartered flight south, the Morgan campaign makes landfall in Kahana, the MP accompanied by his wife Sefina and two daughters, Talia and Ainsley. Speaking to an audience equally composed of white and Mālno voters, Morgan delivers a speech in the district’s largest harbor.
”To this audience, and to all Lamarnans everywhere - be they Anglo or Mālno, German or Jewish - let me offer a solemn promise: under my government, a National Party government, none will be left behind. Lend your votes to the National Party, and all Lamarnans, no matter their origin or class, will be put first. Lend your votes to the National Party, and we will do all in our power to see to the revitalization of our industry and healthcare, the empowerment of our Armed Forces, and a decisive end to the scourge of poverty, in Mana’eā and beyond!”

May 15 Evening: The Morgan campaign moves into Mana’eā itself, in time for the MP and his family to attend a dinner sponsored by Pacific Patriots, the de facto Mālno wing of the National Party. At the event, which is headlined by a keynote speech delivered by the National Party’s Parliamentary candidate in the district, MP Morgan officially accepts the organization’s endorsement for the leadership. (Party function/endorsement event)

May 16 Morning: Foregoing speechifying, Morgan spends a day aiding in organizing volunteers and cutting hefty monetary donations to Mana’eā’s overwhelmed homeless shelters, with his wife and daughters - of Mālno heritage themselves - assisting on the ground. He hires a dozen capable locals as canvassers in the district, paying them out of his own sizable coffers.

May 16 Evening: Continuing the launch of his Southern Islands campaign, MP Morgan hires campaign managers for Mana’eā, Kahana, and A’ Kapui.

May 17 Morning: Stopping along the way to Marswick and Pali, Alfie Morgan organizes a rally in A’ Makalpui, giving the headline speech to his wife. Speaking in her mother tongue, Sefina Morgan makes a targeted appeal to the district’s Mālno voters, emphasizing the commitment of both her family and the National Party to improving housing and healthcare in rural villages.

May 17 Evening: The Morgan campaign arrives in Marswick, organizing a fundraiser sponsored by the local branch of the National Party.

May 18 Morning: Setting up camp in Marswick for the day, MP Morgan attends a National Party-sponsored conference of fellow businessmen, all locals ranging from small-time upstarts to big-time moguls, in a bid to court these wealthier backers both in his leadership challenge and in the general election. (Party function)

May 18 Evening: Taking a chance with a new strategy, Alfie Morgan launches a livestream the night of the party leader debate, speaking from his hotel suite in order to offer rebuttals.

May 19 Morning: Morgan and company move into Pali. Making use of May 17’s cash infusion, he launches his first television ad, in it touching upon his pet issue - Lamarnan nationalism - and promising to fight to bring Lamarna’s once-booming blue-collar industry back to the nation’s shores should he be selected as Leader.

May 19 Evening: Chartering a flight to jump to Lamarna’s southernmost island, Morgan and his family spend the evening resting in Arcadia Port.

May 20 Morning: The Morgan campaign launches its second fundraiser of the week in Arcadia University, specifically targeting individual donations from younger and student voters.

May 20 Evening: At the invitation of Nationalist Youth, the youth wing of the National Party, MP Morgan holds a rally in Arcadia University, firing a deliberately pointed barb at incumbent Leader Merrill.
”If our leader cannot rise to meet a challenge to his leadership, then how are we expected to believe he will rise to meet any challenge at all?”

Interview with The Guardian - Lamarna

Quote

It's rather simple: we offer solutions that are never really considered by the other major parties. I was elected on a platform of supporting universal education for example. We can start by revitalizing the manufacturing sector through the development of modern infrastructure, such as upgraded ferry and inter-island flight services. We can look to upgrade our rail services. This will pump millions into a modernized manufacturing sector, and ensure that we are developing jobs for the 21st century.

Another thing we can do is build up our renewable energy sector, through the construction of wind and solar farms and hydroelectric dams, which will provide thousands of jobs for our construction workers. We can set up biofuel plantations, which will allow farmers struggling for revenue to earn money by selling these crops to the government, as well as selling their own goods. This will allow our farming sector to rebuild their lives. We can invest in our local education to ensure that we have a highly educated populace, which will also ensure high-level jobs come to the southern islands.

These are solutions that myself, and our leader, Anthony Milton, have been fighting for in Parliament for months, and in Anthony's case, years, yet we have not been heard by those in power. Our party is pushing for these solutions, and with the support of the voters, a Socialist government will enact these policies.

All good in my books. Maybe an extra two days will open up the door for the rest of our members to actually post here before the next update.

Henderson at a forum and Lamarna University's Arcadia campus

May 14 morning: Outside his office, Henderson, uncharacteristically  angry, met with reporters to release a statement regarding the harassment of a woman by refugees.

"These men, if they can be called that, Have proven themselves ungrateful for the asylum our country has given them. They should be arrested and deported without delay. If you do not accept our country's laws, then get out. There is no place for you here. You may find another place where your attitudes are welcome, but I doubt it. Leave, and never come back, or you will feel the wrath of our law enforcement. Thank you."

May 14 evening: Henderson held a meeting with local party officials to discuss strategy for the upcoming race (party function)

May 15 morning: Henderson held a rally with the DLP Member for Victoriana, Bertie Hannigan. Hannigan labelled him as a future Prime Minister and even President of Lamarna. For his part, Michael gave a rousing endorsement of the veteran Hannigan. (Endorsement rally)

May 15 evening: Michael conducted his interview with The Guardian's Lamarna division (interview)

May 16 morning Michael held a series of meetings with campaign leaders to devise GOTV plans (improve infrastructure)

May 17 morning: The morning was spent with Leliana (rest)

May 17 evening: Michael, accompanied by Leliana Ayaman, made a special announcement from the steps of their home

"We are very proud to announce that after three years, Leliana and I are finally engaged to be married. She's been a source of endless love and support for the last three years, and I'm proud to be engaged to her. And Anthony, I hope you'll be at the wedding!"

May 18 morning: Michael and Leliana celebrated their engagement with family and close friends (rest)

May 18 evening: This evening, Michael held a fundraising barbecue at his home, inviting anyone interested in helping him be re-elected and seeing a Socialist government elected. (Fundraiser)

May 19 morning: Michael held another fundraiser this morning, hosting a breakfast for anyone interested in seeing a Socialist government.

May 19 evening: Michael held a forum on his old university campus answering questions from any students who ask (rally)

May 20 morning: Henderson stayed in during the morning, spending time with his fiancee (rest)

May 20 evening: The afternoon was spent in the cetpnter of the town, where he rallied his supporters with a fiery speech in support of universal healthcare

Lei Thompson holding a fundraiser dinner

May 14 Morning: Lei Thompson sat down with campaign manager Jack Greene over breakfast to discuss finances for a vigorous campaign in the northern islands and urban areas. (Infrastructure).

May 14 Evening: Lei Thompson cut a short internet ad discussing North Korea’s advance in nuclear activities.

“Fellow Lamarnans, it is now, more than ever, that we have to unite with NATO and the United States of America to find a peaceful resolution to the nuclear advances of North Korea. We cannot let the world end in a ray of nuclear blast.”

May 15 Morning: Lei Thompson held a fundraiser brunch in Aribye for the Ocean and Sky Party.

May 15 Evening: Lei Thompson holds an endorsement rally in Ka’ Lai (Information TBA)

May 16 Morning: Lei Thompson went on a walk with her dog, and ate brunch. (Rest).

May 16 Evening: Lei Thompson cut radio ads in Mana’ea discussing the homeless crises and thanking Vogue Paris.

May 17 Morning: Lei Thompson attended an interview. (Information TBA)

May 17 Evening: Lei Thompson held a rally in Victoriana, discussing the attacks on the four women in Alberton.

“It is disgusting what occurred earlier this week to those young girls. We as a country have to make sure the men who did this are deported properly and are punished justly for their actions. We also need to make sure that this doesn’t happen again, and that all women can feel free to walk around, and not have to worry about being harassed or attacked. Furthermore, we need to make sure that the actions committed by these fee men don’t taint our view of refugees. We cannot discriminate an entire group of people who need help due to the actions of a few black sheep. That kind of discrimination does not belong in Lamarna, and neither does sexual harassment.”

May 18 Morning: Lei Thompson slept in and prepared for the debate (rest).

May 18 Evening: Lei Thompson attended the leader debate.

May 19 Morning: Lei Thompson held a rally in Weald, discussing pollution.

May 19 Evening: Lei Thompson held a party function / dinner in Morganville East with other members of the Ocean and Sky party.

May 20 Morning: Lei Thompson sat down with campaign managers Jack Greene and Stephanie Huerta. She discussed hiring more possible campaign managers for Morganville, and told Huerta to focus more on Mana’ea, A’Kapui, and A’Makalpui.

May 20 Evening: Lei Thompson held a fundraiser dinner in Alberton Kendall Park, with the theme being to bring awareness to sexual assault.

No, is everything okay?

Kamala left the forum yesterday for unspecified personal reasons. On top of all the worry associated with that, it looks like it's game over for us unless we can find some way to keep going without her.

Maybe there’s some way we could find a moderater or all moderate the game in an unbiased fashion?

Well, thankfully, it's transpired that all is well on the homefront. Maineiac managed to get in contact with her, and it seems like Kamala's personal life has sort of just overwhelmed her ability to stay active on Atlas. Certain posters (myself definitely included) just sort of mentally blew things out of proportion.

Now, with that out of the way: that was my thinking. I figure we can either find a new singular moderator (perhaps someone with more of a bit-part character within the game; I would volunteer were I not a leadership candidate) or find a way to cycle that duty between us.

Yeah, that would probably work. As someone who's had to screw over his own characters with bad rolls in D&D, I think I could manage that.

All in favor?
