Update #1: President Kingfish

April 17th, 1934
St. Louis, Missouri

President Franklin Delano Roosevelt knew the situation was desperate for America. The Great Depression was still looming over his presidency and his New Deal wasn't helping just quite enough. He just needed to find a way to bring America to prosperity. He certainly couldn’t choose Senator Huey Long from Louisiana, That man was very extreme and he had gotten into several heated discussions with him. As he continued to think in his private section of the park, he never noticed the man slowly walking up Behind him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Assassination of Franklin Delano Roosevelt on April 17th, 1934 surprised the entire Nation and immediately his vice President, John Nance Garner was rushed to be inaugurated as the 33rd President of the United States. The big shoes that Garner needed to fill were impossible for Garner but yet he attempted to lead the country to the best of his abilities. He, of course, however, knew full well that the American public did not hold him to the same light as FDR due to his quite moderate positions. The man who assassinated FDR, Gabriel Kléber, a Frenchman who left France during World War 1 and was a decisive Republican supporter believing that the Democrats would ruin the country, was caught on June 19th 1934 and executed for the crime of assassinating the former President.

Despite the Capture of the assassin, Garner’s Approval was incredibly low, to the point of it being in the 20th percentile and only barely at that. The reason for this, Many believe, was because of him purposely stifling FDR’s Proposed ‘New Deal’ and attempted to find a moderate replacement that would work. With the 1936 election coming up fast, the president couldn’t find a substantial way to raise his approval ratings and thus began to prepare for a defeat against the Republican Nominee. On August 17th, 1935, however, everything would change when Former Governor and current Senator of Louisiana Huey Long, also known as the Kingfish, announced his candidacy. His policy, known as the Share our Wealth Program in which everyone was to be insured a car, a radio, and a home valid at $5000. In his own words, every man would be a king.

The unpopularity of President Garner shows here

Throughout the months of August to the Democratic National Convention, Long campaigned on this platform as well as the simple Isolationist “No Nothing with any other country” policy as well He would not embargo or lend-lease anyone during the war, which was a crucial reason as to what happened in 1942. President Garner, on the other hand, could not get any support whatsoever and all of his staff refused to campaign against either him or Long as they thought that Garner would win due to Long’s somewhat socialist tendencies and him being somewhat authoritative in Louisiana when he was governor there.

However, when the delegates met on June 6th, the outcome was a complete stunner as it showed Long winning every Democratic Primary state except New Jersey (which went to Garner). Long would give a speech to his supports as well as Democrats who felt that Long was too extreme that he was going to get America out of the Depression and fix it up very well. President Garner would mainly become known throughout history due to him being only the second President in History to be actually replaced in his own party’s primary (the first being Franklin Pierce in 1856).

Every Man A King sounds really good right about now!

Meanwhile, the Republicans had attempted to have Governor Alf Landon run for President and up until February 17th, he did and was leading in a few polls, though more citizens liked William Borah of Idaho more. However, at a rally in Chicago, Illinois, Landon was hit by a car going 40 MPH and died 2 days later on February 19th. With him out of the way, Former Governor of Massachusetts ran on the platform of a return to more liberal ideas that America seemed to have forgotten. In the end, however, William Borah won the nomination and had Allen be his running mate. This of course, was laughed at by Long and his own running mate, Joseph P. Kennedy and they began to campaign together on the SoW Program, though in secret Kennedy was a moderate and didn’t like Share our Wealth.

Borah! Borah! Borah!

The General Election was quite literally, lopsided, as while Borah drew only small crowds, Long drew gigantic crowds as many saw in him one message: Hope. Hope for the future and Hope for America. Borah meanwhile was seen just like Herbert Hoover was 4 years prior, A republican whom had let the country down what seemed to be an endless hole from which they could never escape. Still, in several states, of which they were relatively few, Borah was leading by a handful of percentage points. On election night, the polls showed this:

It was predicted that Huey long would win in a landslide and not even before it was 10 PM on Election Night, Long had won the 266 Electoral votes neccessary to win the presidency and would thus become the 34th President of the United States for the next few years and under him, America Prospered but it also somewhat suffered and soon, Party Fatigue would catch up to Long, but that’s a story for another day.

LOng/Kennedy: 500/87.6%
Borah/Allen: 31/12.4%

Every Man SHALL BE A King

Sorry for this being super short. In a hurry and I really don't think there would be anything interesting to note in the general simply because no matter what the GOP candidate tries, they're going to lose in a landslide.

I think because he's relatively unknown outside of Kaiserreich. Anyways, I'm doing this because it was the winning choice in a Poll I did. thoughts on the entire update?

yeah, if Long is extreme isolationist, he isn't going to get involved in ww2, to the point where Japan may never bomb the USA.

No Japan bombing in Pearl Harbor (to MacArthur's protest) and no lend-lease program, which really, REALLY helped the soviets against the Germans. so guess how it goes.

Your map, assuming every state has a result in the midpoint, has Long winning 59% of the popular vote.
