How often has it happened?

This was inspired by both the Russia hearings, and also the amusing fact I just found out when checking a detail about the 1920 election: the Irish Parliament voted to spend $500,000 on the presidential election, but nobody knows how the actual money was spent.

There’s been the theory that Wilkie’s nomination was the result of British intrigued, them wanting dearly to ensure that an internationalist was elected in 1940 and not someone in the mold of Taft or Hoover.

I feel like 1916 would be the perfect election for such a thing to happen.

I very strongly doubt that.
I remember reading that Churchill felt very relieved when FDR won his 3rd term, which implies that he believed that Wilkie was not good.

It is alleged that both the British and the Soviets worked to get Hamilton Fish III tossed out of Congress.
