This bill has enough votes to pass. Representatives have 24 hours to change their votes.

While I respect the president veto of this bill it is deeply concerning to see this government oppose a basic cap on prescription drug prices when we have seen multiple instances of gross abuse surrounding price increases of prescription drugs.

Prescription drug manufacturers already are making an huge  profit on drug manufacturing already

This bill would ensure that drug prices rise with inflation while also allowing manufacturers to fully respond  to increases of factor costs. Individuals do not take prescriptions because they want to but because they need to and these individuals should have a right to access affordable prescriptions:

To put simply, I cannot agree with setting caps on prescription drugs (especially set as low as the rate of inflation) because they have proven to cause more harm than good.

In many cases, artificially lowering the price of prescription drugs at the government level leads to shortages of the drugs themselves, and has been proven to be harmful when it comes to trying to fund research and development that goes into creating newer, safer, and cheaper drugs (which is incredibly expensive).

While you can argue that the section I have omitted in my redraft offers exceptions, when extra time and money is spent petitioning the FDA, that is less money and time put that could have been going towards breakthrough treatments, and an even longer wait for patients to receive it.

They best way to lower the overall price of prescription drugs is to allow for more competition with new drugs being released into the market (including generics). By setting price caps, we would be keeping this from happening.

Edit: In addition, we have also shortened the length of medical patents and eliminated evergreen patents for prescription drugs under the Patent Reform Act, which addresses the concerns being laid out in the explanation given for the motion to veto override.

This needs six ayes to pass since it says "of the members" as opposed to "of those voting".

Technically, when Fhtagn vetoed this bill it went back to the Senate, not the House. So the Senate PPT has to administer the override first among the Senators and then send it to the House.

Either way, assuming this were passing, it would still have to go to the Senate next anyway.

Well that counts. The bill passes Congress and goes to the President for her signature.
