If Gove won the leadership contest and kept Osborne on as Chancellor and First Secretary of State, what would happen from there?

First off, Gove would have to run from the outset in order to win - his backstabbing of Johnson was political suicide (at least in that contest). If he paints himself as the standard bearer of Vote Leave then it's possible that he could beat the highly flawed May with the party members.

Would be interesting if Osborne stayed on but remember that the Brexiteers hate him for 'Project Fear' - his suggestion during the campaign that Brexit would seriously damage the UK economy. Osborne may be too closely tied to the Remain campaign to stay in government and may find it too demoralising. If he stays on it would only be because a) he thinks he can push for a soft Brexit / EEA or b) thinks Gove is politically vulnerable and can succeed him. I think it would make the government even more unstable than in reality and he may not last long.

You don’t think Gove could bridge the divide? If Gove appointed Morgan, Johnson, Osborne, May, and maybe Goldsmith to the big five Cabinet seats, I can see the Conservatives being a bit more united.
