This map is messed up.

It is possible to make a Nebraska map without splitting any counties, but 538 chose a different map.

But you split Omaha worse if you do (and I think compactness is more important then county boundaries anyway)

It would be great if we could get gmaps overlays of these maps, because only a few cities are labeled on their maps.

What is a "gmap overlay"?

That compact districts map makes me a little uncomfortable.

What is a "gmap overlay"?

Presumably Google Maps/Fusion Tables overlay.

The data is actually available at the bottom of the page via GitHub, so it's likely doable. Personally, I just get confused whenever I go to GitHub.

EDIT: here are all of the shapefiles used. Maybe I'll take a look at it later.

EDIT2: Unfortunately, Github "truncated" the list and about 1/3 of the files aren't showing up - not sure if they can be accessed through some other means. Can probably download it all as a batch, though.

EDIT3: Downloading the batch produces all the files, but...looks like it was built (at least partially) with Dave's Redistricting! There's a folder in the batch of data called "DRF" - those files can all be loaded individually into DRA to see the maps as well (save for the compact-algorithm map, which was done outside of DRA).

Here's the "Alabama-Competitive" map as an example:

The shapefiles can be converted to KML files in QGIS (or they can be displayed in QGIS with various map backgrounds). This is is the Alabama compact algorithm displayed in Google Earth. I had to zoom in to get the counties to display.

It is interesting how much the Birmingham district offsets into Shelby County.

This is a version with a Bing map background displayed in QGIS.
