JANUARY 2018 FREMONTIAN ELECTIONS

How we got here: First Minister Kamala resigned her office earlier this evening, elevating Speaker of the Houses of Parliament Cashew as the interim first minister.

What happens now: The Constitution of the Commonwealth of Fremont as amended requires that a new first minister be chosen by special election.

I would run, but I doubt that I would have a shot.

(However, I might consider a run. I'll think about it.)

Update: The resignation of A.Z. Cactus, MFP early this morning has created a vacancy in the composition of parliament. Per the constitution, a snap election to fill his seat for the remainder of the current session will take place alongside the emergency by-election for first minister.

Truman, just wondering, could an arrangement be made such that if DFL is elected FM, the results of the Parliament center election goes from 1-seat IRV to 2-seat STV in order to replace both Cactus and DFL?

Just curious.

Note: With the absence of First Minister Cashew, I as the most senior ranking member of Parliament am tasked with administering the election in his stead. With that, the ballot has been posted, though no vote before 12:00am EST will be valid.

While not a bad proposal, this is unfortunately forbidden by the constitution, because DFL was still a sitting member of parliament at 12:00 am Thursday—simply put, you cannot hold a special election to fill a vacancy that does not yet exist.

Unless I'm sorely mistaken, there's no law against deleting and re-posting your ballot to correct this.

COMMONWEALTH OF FREMONT
JANUARY 2018 SNAP ELECTION
OFFICIAL BALLOT

1. This election will last for exactly 72 hours beginning at 12:00:00 AM (Eastern Standard Time) on Friday, January 26th and ending at 12:00:00 AM on Monday, January 29th. All ballots cast outside of this period will be counted invalid.

2. You are eligible to vote in this election if you (a) have registered with the federal Census Bureau as a voter of one of the states of this Region; (b) have not had your voting rights stripped as the result of deregistration or court order; and (c) meet all other requirements set forth in Article V of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Fremont.

3. When voting for First Minister and Parliament, please rank the candidates that appear on the ballot in order of preference, with "1" indicating your first choice, "2" your second choice, etc. You may rank all, some, or none of the candidates on your ballot. If you wish to vote for a candidate whose name does not appear on the ballot, you may do so by writing his or her name in the blank provided.

5. You are permitted, but not advised, to edit your ballot within 20 minutes of posting it in this thread. Editing your ballot more than 20 minutes after posting it in this voting booth will cause it to be counted invalid.

6. Please check over your ballot thoroughly before you click "Post". You have no excuse for casting a ballot which contains errors or does not accurately reflect your preferences. Failure to correct errors in your ballot may result in its disqualification. Yeah. I did that with my ballot when I wanted to make YE my first pref instead of me.

Agreed. DFL has a definite win (unless a write-in make a bigly comeback), and YE has a very comfortable lead.

This has been Captain Obvious on the state of the race.
