While I support the death penalty in theory, in practice it simply very rarely is used and costs crazy amounts of money due to numerous national pro bono groups etc. glad this bill is being put forth and I hope it passes

I'm surprised it isn't already banned there. You'd think WA along with OR would have been the very first to ban it.

Proud of my state. Time for the death penalty to end.

I support this. While I would ideally keep the death penalty legal in the rarest of cases, that is not how it is used in the United States, and I think it should be abolished.

Good, but I won't be happy until it's banned in all 50 states.

But the Pacific Northwest has been the most socially liberal region in the country, at least in recent decades.

Whatever.  With a few exceptions the states that have it don't execute anyone to begin with.

GMO labeling is mostly advocated by conservative aligned conspiracy theorists.

Most liberals oppose GMO labeling (Sanders is an exception).

There are very few states that wouldn't reject giving illegal immigrants drivers licenses. That's not a great way to measure.

Eh I’m not sure about that. Other than the scientists and breeders who develope gm crops, the most pro gmo people are conservative farmers.

The referenda on the coast suggest otherwise. It is true that "science or else" has begun gradually replacing "small is beautiful" on the left generationally but on the whole green values are still dominate.

A bill proposing the abolition of Washington’s death penalty has been voted out of a state Senate committee.

That has most certainly not been my experience. Most liberals, no, but there’s a strain (pun intended) of arch-progressives who support GMO labeling. They also tend to be anti-vaxxers

Oregon was basically founded to be a whites-only state. Lots of ugly racial history there.

One of the surprising things is that West Virginia doesn't have the death penalty.

I’m glad. The death penalty does nothing to reduce crime, and I’m proud to say that my god and my church will stand behind this effort.

On Crime issues, I would say West Virginia never was that Conservative. Just look at the 1988 election

Yes it was, and is. Dukakis won the state because there was still a huge number of ancestral Democrats who refused to vote for any Republican for President largely based on tradition and family history.

I think Reagan's War on Coal killing all those coal jobs in the 1980s is a better explanation.
