Charlie Crist would never be the Democratic nominee for anything in Florida outside of Pinellas County after his 2014 loss. I expect Clinton would recruit Gillum or someone from Orlando.

November 7th, 2018: GOP Takes Senate, Expands House Majority

Last night, the Republicans picked up a net gain of 6 seats in the Senate, opening up a wide majority to work with. In the House, they picked up 16 seats and held onto most of their governorships, only losing in Illinios, Wisconsin, Maine and Michigan narrowly. Mitch McConnell will run for Senate Majority Leader and Paul Ryan will run to be reelected as Speaker of the House. President Clinton congratulated Republicans on their wins and spoke to the Republican leaders about "bipartisan solutions" last night.

House:
Republicans: 252
Democrats: 183

Governorships:
Republicans: 29
Democrats: 20
Independent: 1

Senate:
Republicans: 56
Democrats: 43
Undecided: McMullin

November 11th, 2018: McMullin to Caucus with Republicans

In a video announcement, Senator-elect Evan McMullin from Utah announced that he will caucus with the Republicans in the Senate, expanding their majority to 57 seats. This move was expected because of McMullin's conservative views but Democrats had held out hope that McMullin would caucus with them. There are a record number of Independents in the Senate, with three Independent candidates winning races within the last 12 years. McMullin beat out Congresswoman Mia Love and City Council Member Jenny Wilson on November 6th.

November 20th, 2018: Clinton Nominates Donnelly for Secretary of State

Joe Donnelly just lost his Senate seat but he will be in politics for another 4 years as President Clinton nominated him to serve as Secretary of State after Joe Biden's retirement. Donnelly serves on the Armed Services Committee and is a strong replacement for Biden. He is expected to be confirmed by the Senate easily. Donnelly's replacement, the former Governor of Indiana and Senator-elect Mike Pence, praised the choice and wished Donnelly the best in a public statement.

Decemner 4th, 2018: 2020 Republican Poll Shows Pence, Rubio Leading

A newly released 2020 GOP poll shows newly elected Senator Mike Pence leading the pack with 23%. Florida Senator Marco Rubio comes in a strong second with 18%. Ted Cruz, the Senator from Texas, has 12%. Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton comes in with 8%, Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker with 5% and former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore with 2%. Pence is unlikely to run given that he was just elected as Senator but Republicans still believe that he could run if enough people back a the idea of his candidacy. Pence has stayed silent on the speculation, staying focused on transitioning into his new role as Senator.

wow this is what I would expect to happen irl if clinton had won its just sad seeing so many good democrats losing. Will Clinton run in 2020? also its good to see Donnelly got some employment after his loss hopefully he gets tapped for vp in 28 or runs himself in 28!

Thanks! It hurt to have so many DEMs lose... Honestly, I don't know what Clinton's gonna do in 2020... still mulling it over.

January 21st, 2019: Former Congressman Joe Walsh Announces 2020 Campaign

Former Illinois Congressman Joe Walsh announced he is running for President in 2020 as a Republican. Walsh has low name recognition and his early announcement will boost his visibility. Walsh had said that if Clinton won in 2016, he would run in 2020. Walsh is making good on that promise. The 2020 campaign was officially started in August when Roy Moore announced his campaign but this announcement kicks off a full season of campaign launches.

January 30th, 2019: Clinton Gives Lackluster SOTU

President Clinton delivered a lackluster speech tonight at the State of the Union, resulting in negative reviews from across the aisle and palpable boredom in the chamber. 59% of Americans polled said they were "unimpressed" and "bored" during the speech. Clinton discussed terrorism and way to reach across the aisle in a Republican-dominated Congress over the next two years. The GOP response was delivered by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, showing the parties willingness to go with a moderate candidate in 2020. The Republicans see momentum building and believe that they will win with a moderate candidate in 2020.

IRL the losses could have been even worse than this as I could see them taking OH and PA as well so the losses would have been 10 seats instead of 8(Im counting VA as a loss). This along with the fact the Senate was expected to be a 50/50 split means the GOP could have had a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate.

February 7th, 2019: Pence Will Not Run for President

Indiana Senator Mike Pence announced today that he will not seek the 2020 Republican nomination, following months of speculation that he would jump into the race. This opens up the field for lesser-known candidates to run, such as Governor Charlie Baker of Massachusetts or Brian Sandoval of Nevada. Pence was the Vice Presidential nominee in 2016 under Donald Trump and was seen as an obvious heir to the GOP nomination in 2020.

February 18th, 2019: Cochran will Retire, Opens Up Special Election

Long-serving Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran will retire in March, opening up a special election in November. Mississippi elects a Governor in November as well and this Senate race will coincide with that election. Cochran has been in and out of the hospital for almost a year and still had 2 more years in his term. Cochran has served in the Senate since 1978. Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant will appoint someone to the seat to fill in for Cochran until November. Bryant may nominate Lt. Governor Tate Reeves or even himself to serve in the Senate.

February 20th, 2019: Cotton Jumps into 2020 Race

Arkansas Senator Tom Cotton announced that he will run for President in 2020, becoming the third Republican to announce their candidacy. Cotton is very conservative and has a lot of appeal of evangelicals, a crucial voting bloc in Iowa. Cotton announced his campaign in Little Rock, in front of thousands of supporters. Cotton begins the campaign down in the polls but has time to build name recognition and a base of support.

March 2nd, 2019: Bryant Will Fill Cochran Seat, Run for Reelection

Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant will fill retiring Senator Thad Cochran's set when he retires on March 10th. Bryant appointed himself to the position, meaning that the Lt. Governor Tate Reeves will take over as Governor. Bryant also announced that he will run for reelection in November, facing off against whoever the Democrats nominate. Bryant is popular in the state and will very likely easily win in November.

March 9th, 2019: Haley Launches Presidential Campaign

Former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is running for President, announcing her bid in Charleston. Haley is very popular in the state and has wide appeal to conservatives and moderates. Haley is a stark contrast to all male, all white candidates that have announced so far. Haley could be the only woman to run for President in 2020 as a Republican, as no other female candidates are speculated. Haley would be the first woman and minority nominee for the Republican party if she wins the nomination.

March 13th, 2019: Cruz Announces Candidacy

Texas Senator Ted Cruz is running for President once again, announcing his candidacy today in Texas. Cruz came a distant second in the 2016 GOP primary against Donald Trump but he hopes to actually win it this time. Runnerups normally don't win primaries in their second bids, look at Mike Huckabee and Rick Santorum. Cruz hopes that the groundwork that he placed in 2016 will propel his candidacy to the top in Iowa and other evangelical states.

March 19th, 2019: Sanders Will Not Challenge Clinton

Aides of Senator Bernie Sanders say that he will not run for President in 2020, opting out of a primary challenge against President Clinton. Clinton is very unpopular and has yet to announce her plans for 2020. Insiders say that the President may retire in 2020, opening up a Democratic primary later than the DNC would want. One aide said that "President Clinton seems genuinely undecided and is not even leaning one way or another."

April 1st, 2019: Clinton Creates Woman Leader Organization

President Clinton announced today that she has called all woman leaders of countries to attend a conference in Washington DC. Guests may include British Prime Minister Theresa May and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Clinton touted the achievements woman have made in the 21st century and said that this conference will be a major milestone in world history. This announcement makes many believe that she will run for reelection and will run on the history she has made as the first female President.

April 3rd, 2019: Rubio, Kasich Announce 2020 Bids

Ohio Governor and Florida Senator Marco Rubio both announced their 2020 Presidential bids today in competing events. Both touted establishment support and a return to the classic, more moderate Republican party. The GOP race so far is dominated by farther right candidates, showing the lasting influence of Donald Trump on the party. Rubio talked about immigration and his ties to the Latino community while Kasich said that he would consider putting a Democrat on the ticket and urged bipartisanship.

April 12th, 2019: Sandoval Launches 2020 Campaign

Former Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval announced that he is running for President, taking the number of Latino Republican candidates to 2. Sandoval was the popular Governor of a blue-ish state for 8 years and has a good standing with party insiders. Sandoval is considered a rising star and his presidential ambitions have long been speculated. Sandoval also announced his campaign with a dig at Donald Trump saying, "We lost 3 years ago because we became the party of walls and hate, not the party of freedom and unity."

April 23rd, 2019: Martinez Jumps Into Crowded Race

The former Governor of New Mexico, Susana Martinez, is running for President in 2020. Martinez jumps into an already crowded race, with 9 candidates announcing their campaign by April. Martinez is expected to run on a platform of inclusiveness and common sense immigration reform as the centre of her campaign. Hailing from a state that borders Mexico and being a Latino politician, Martinez hopes to change the message coming out of the GOP about immigrants.

May 2nd, 2019: Clinton Will Seek Reelection

President Clinton announced that she will run for reelection in 2020, surprising progressive Democrats who had assumed she was not. The President held a campaign rally in New York today with Vice President Tim Kaine to announce her campaign in 2020. Clinton touted her common sense gun reform bill and her strides to make America energy independent and safer for the environment. Clinton also focused in on destroying ISIS, a theme she will likely touch on in 2019 in order to run on in 2020. Vice President Kaine seemed happy at the rally, but aides say that Kaine was ready, and eager, to run in 2020 if Clinton didn't.

May 6th, 2019: Gardner Announces 2020 Candidacy

Colorado Senator Cory Gardner is running for President, making the number of Republican candidates 10. Gardner is an establishment favourite and will have to fight to gain ground with the GOP bigwigs against Kasich or Rubio. Gardner hails from a state that is quickly becoming solidly blue and he is up for reelection in 2020. Gardner said that he will run for reelection if he loses but said, "I won't lose, I can tell you that". Gardner is the last speculative Republican to announce after MA Governor Charlie Baker announced he will not run for President.

May 18th, 2019: Trump Goes On Rant at Rally, Claims Clinton Caniet Full of "Cyborgs"

At a rally in Dayton, Ohio today, Independent Presidential candidate Donald Trump went on a bizarre rant about President Clinton and her "Cyborgs". Trump said, "Clinton has so many cyborgs in her Cabinet. They talk like her, think like her and they're so obviously robots. It's sad folks, sad. And I can tell you, I can tell you this, we are going to defund cyborg trainers when I get into office, that I can tell you ." Trump supporters looked confused and many started trickling out of the event. The Trump campaign has remained silent after the rally.
