Would the sponsor be willing to add GPS/Navigation software to the allowable uses of mobile electronic devices?

Yes, but it should be that use of the devices for navigation and GPS should not be in the hands of drivers while their vehicles are in motion

Right, right. I just want to clarify that having your phone GPS on telling you directions is not "using a mobile electronic device" for the purposes of this act.

Mr. Speaker,

I think this bill needs to explain what is meant by a "mobile electronic device".  I am not totally opposed to this legislation as it currently stands, but I believe it to be too broad in its scope.  Frankly, a "mobile electronic device" could be anything from a GPS unit to a car radio.  I would support an amendment to this bill that would clear this up.

I agree here and fault myself for not making that specific.  While I did make everything else in the bill about the cell phone, that part should be amended to say "cellular device."  Thank you.

So for the amendments:

Change mobile electronic device to cellular device

And

Clarify that use does not include GPS/direction Apps provided any such use is hands free
