I mean, yes, Nelson can't rest easy, but let's not forget that there's a difference between running as an incumbent in a good year for your party, and a challenger in a bad year for your party. Lean D for now.

I agree with people saying it's Lean D, however, I would add the caveat that it's a very stubborn Lean D (think PA for the Dems during the Bush Years, or Virginia during 2012).

I think tonight's Good news might keep Scott from making the mistake of stepping into this race.

I’ve been saying for a while it makes little rational sense to light your kids’ fortune on fire on a likely guaranteed losing Senate bid, but whatever! If he wants to flush money down the toilet, go ahead!

Tilt D because Scott is well liked by GOP, but he's a polarized individual.

Bill Nelson is nonpartisan and well liked and should be reelected.

The big reason I think I differ from most national pundits in calling this a Lean D race is that Florida is an extremely expensive state in which to campaign. Republicans will get more bang for their buck in the many rural states with more vulnerable Dem senators. I just don't see them spending enough money to run a serious race here.

The North Carolina race in 2014 cost over $100 million, didn't it? Will Rick Scott have that kind of money at his disposal?

Scott is polarizing to women and minorities outside the Cuban community.  And so is Trump.  Nelson will have an easier time with a six point lead over Scott than a less polarizing figure like Scott.

I’m sure his kids will be thrilled at the idea of him draining their inheritance!

Considering he's a reptile, his kids will be fine as long as he leaves them enough money to buy a heat rock

Toss up. A lot of Floridians were impressed by Scott's leadership during Hurricane Irma and the massive amount of old people and families in the state are probably loving the tax cuts (compounded by FL not having income tax)

This. One party will win both the governorship and the Senate seat. No split.

Right, just like how Crist's coattails in 2006 powered Katherine Harris to victory

Not completely related, but Rick Scott is much older than I thought he was. I thought he was maybe in his early or mid 50s, but he’s 65!

He's still looking better than Nelson. He was on Fox a little while ago and he looks and sounds like his face is sagging off or something.

After Wednesday's tragedy, the GOP can all but kiss this seat goodbye. Likely D.

Well, which is it?

I think it's Lean D. Any leadership bump from the shooting will be gone when Nelson accuses him of using a tragedy to further Scott's political career.

Unless Nelson politicizes the tragedy first, Scott wont use it for an attack, and do be fair I doubt Nelson would. But i wouldnt put it above some outside leftwing political group or the DSCC

I’d read the replies to that Tweet.

Also suggesting Wray resign over this is absurd. Yes, FBI dropped the ball but that’s low level grunts working on those tip lines

It's just another cheap way to drop the responsibility on anything but guns and silence calls for gun control until the next shooting.

Scott's gun record will inhibit any leadership bump from happening.

Rick Scott's had it out for the FBI ever since they tried to get him for defrauding Medicare for $2 billion

It will really come down to national sentiment on guns at the moment because they're both politicizing it for their own devices. I think as it comes out how much the FBI botched their tabs on Cruz, the public will start siding with Scott, not the gun control crowd since gun control is always a flash in the pan issue.
