This amendment essentially fixes the problem that started the TimTurner vs. Peebs case, in which Tim's attorney has alleged that Tim cast his vote before polls closed at midnight, but that the servers lagged and his vote posted 30 seconds later. There is currently no provision that states whether the polls close at 12:00:00 AM or 12:00:59 AM, so the case is left up to interpretation. This amendment hopes to solve that problem by defining exactly when polls close.

I support this bill - having a one minute grace period so to speak makes sense given that people's clocks on their computer or watches may be slightly out of sync, so this will give a bit of benefit of the doubt.

I support this bill. This seems like a good way to deal with connection problems that have caused issues multiple times in the past with voters voting within the election time period but not having their vote recorded in time.

If there are no more questions, then I motion for a final vote.

A motion for a final vote has been made. Representatives have 24 hours to object before we go to a final vote.

Amendments take the form of Joint Resolutions (both Houses) that become effective when ratified by the Regions.

Waiting for the decision of the Supreme Court on the court case, but I don't think there is a problem to be fixed. Elections last 72 hours, not 72 hours 1 minute. The voting booth closes at "midnight".  Ask Cinderella how important it is to be before midnight.

From the Federal electoral Act:

Even with the proposed amendment someone could claim they sent the post in time but the computer did not process it in time.
Finally, even if the new amendment is there maybe it will be disregarded like the amendment was not enforced in the recent election. There were two posts made in the booth by the same person and it was not counted as multiple ballots like the amendment said.

The Federal Electoral Act uses 00:01 as the time, but does not specify the second. This does, at 00:00:59. Since time in Atlasia is counted in seconds, without this amendment, there is time left up to interpretation, but with this amendment, it is exactly known when the polls close, so if a poster posted a vote at 00:00:30 it would be valid, but at 00:01:01 it would not.

This removes a layer of ambiguity.

But if you extend the voting period by 59 seconds after midnight, that is not exactly 72 hours of voting. Instructions on the federal ballot states voting ends at midnihgt (not after). I thought it was known you need to vote before midnight. Don't go add some seconds after.

If people feel there is ambiguity, just clarify the Federal Electoral Act. Don't go burden that bloated article of the constitution with another detail. I thought the new constitution needed to be slimmer than the old one. The constitution is not the place to cover all the details. By puttin voting hours in the constitution you tie the hands of regions and future federal desire to hold an electionat a different time than a Friday. It's not always easy to change the constitution.

This vote has enough votes to pass; representatives have 24 hours to change or add their vote.
