CHANGE.

The 2016 Election Game.
Gameplay thread.

It is 2015. After 8 long years of the Obama presidency, America is different than it was 8 years ago. Americans are ready for new leadership. On the Democratic side, new candidates, young and old, with varying levels of liberalism, compete with each other, each one planning on sweeping the country for the third time in a row. On the Republican side, still with battle scars from 2008 and 2012, ambitious conservative candidates are signing their papers hoping to paint the country a deep shade of red. This is the game, and the history is being made.

RCP: General election poll.
Generic Republican: 47%
Generic Democrat: 46%

Turn #1:
September 1st - September 19th 2015

(Same rules as a standard turn. The turn lasts 72 hours with an optional 24 hour extension.)

RCP: Republican Primary:
Ted Cruz: 22%
Rob Portman: 20%
Rand Paul: 16%
Chris Christie: 13%
Nikki Haley: 10%
Jim Mattis: 6%
Rick Santorum: 4%

Undecided: 9%

The Republicans: The Newbie Populists vs. The Grand Old Establishments:

The 2016 GOP primary has attracted many different candidates from all over the country, with different levels of experience, background, and their level of conservatism. The current leader in the polling is the popular senator from Texas, Ted Cruz, notable in the conservative crowd for his leadership in the political fight against President Obama in the senate. Second in polling is the Ohio senator Rob Portman, who is heavily favored by the establishment and was one of the front-runners for the role as Mitt Romney's running mate in 2012. The son of Ron Paul, Kentucky senator Rand Paul, is bringing a libertarian perspective to the race, with impressive support. Chris Christie and Nikki Haley, both governors from New Jersey and South Carolina respectively, are both aiming for the presidency with just-enough support into September. The popular republican General Jim Mattis, and the heavily conservative former senator from Pennsylvania, Rick Santorum, are the underdogs in the first rounds of polling.

RCP: Democratic Primary:
Phil Bredesen: 21%
Mark Dayton: 19%
Bernie Sanders: 16%
Joe Sestak: 13%
Janet Napolitano: 9%
Deval Patrick: 7%
Jim Hodges: 4%

Undecided: 11%

The Democrats: The Emerging Progressives vs. the Stand-Ground Moderates:

The Democratic Party field is very wide and diverse going into the primaries. The current leader of democratic lineup polling is the former Governor of Tennessee, Phil Bredesen, with a large amount of support, mainly among moderates in the party. Mark Dayton, the runner up, is currently the popular leader with the progressive wing of the party. The Vermont senator Bernie Sanders is another progressive, self declared Democratic Socialist that is getting surprisingly high poll numbers for his low name recognition in the south and west. Joe Sestak, Janet Napolitano, and Deval Patrick are all entering the race with a somewhat decent polling average. Former Governor or South Carolina, Jim Hodges, is the underdog of the race.

State polling will be posted tomorrow. The first debates will be next turn on Monday night.
