It's no question that our police forces are vital in protecting our citizens. At the same time, it is important that our police are best trained to avoid escalation of violence, and to maintain a healthy state of mind.

It is with both of these in mind that I introduce the Police Training Reform Act, to create a standardized minimum number of hours our police must train for in order to keep both our citizens and our police forces safer.

Should 25 hours is a one time thing or an annual thing?

Section 2-1 shall now read:

1. All police officers in Fremont shall be required to take a minimum of 25 combined training hours annually on the subjects of de-escalation and mental health.

The above amendment has passed, and item 5-12 has been changed to reflect this.
