I've seen some liberals argue that things like gay marriage are part of an "inevitable march of progress" and fighting against it is futile and being "on the wrong side of history" (as if history had a teleological end goal), and that once passed, there is no going back. This certainly goes against that argument.

Yeah, it's old news really. This law was passed on in December, but the royal assent was missing until yesterday

Shameful. Governor should be called back and direct rule implemented.

TIL that Bermuda was a significant enough country that it is a catechism of shifting historical trends on social issues, apparently.

Also, moderator, can we get a rename? Bermuda isn't a country, unless you consider Puerto Rico and Hong Kong are countries.

Are already registered marriages going to be nullified altogether, reverted into partnerships or grandfathered?

A "jurisdiction" would be fine IMO.

They are merely rejoining the vast majority of countries in the world. Bermudans are clearly not willing to make this change to their society at this point. California did this too, if you don't remember.

Apparently some posters long for the good old days of European Imperialism.
