It may sound harsh, but concerning freeskier Gus Kenworthy, probably the most famous gay Olympia contestant, he may seem right.
Kenworthy canvassed for tolerance so much that he didn't have enough time for training.
Last time winning the silver medal in the men’s slopestyle event, he landed in last place this year.

(However figure skater Adam Rippon, the other American gay athlete, won bronze.)

I saw one article which referred to Kenworthy as an “openly gay skier” when “skier” would’ve worked.

Gosh, I didn't know that this sport was that white...

was....well, still is, but there are more brothers playing in the NHL every year.  There are perfectly good, non-racist reasons that black people haven't been represented much in ice hockey though.  You have to be a top athlete to play in the NHL, if you're a top athlete and you're black, you ain't wasting your time learning hockey when you already know how to play other sports (just by living) that make way more money at the top level.  It's the same for white kids to, in most places.  If you're a top athlete white kid in Dallas, you probably are never going to see an ice rink, much less show how good you could be at ice hockey.  But in Buffalo?  St.Louis?  Detroit?  A white top athlete may find his way onto the ice in those cities, and increasingly, so are some black kids.  This is a good thing for everybody.

This is also why Americans (men) suck at soccer.  Our top athletes are not playing soccer, they are playing basketball and football, a few find their way into baseball and hockey.  It's not the same in Germany, Brazil or Mexico.

Well, the sport isn't nearly as white itself, as much as it is in America. Canada has a strong tradition growing every year of hockey players of color. Not too many years ago Mike Grier retired from the Buffalo Sabres. His contribution to history? He was the first African American NHL player who advanced up through the American minor leagues and development leagues. This is compared to other African Americans who moved to Canada in their teens to play and came back to America when they hit Pro.

Anywho, there are a large number of black Canadians in the sport. Several years ago the now-defunct Atlanta Thrashers had the first ever all non-white starting lineup! but yes, in America hockey is only slowly changing its Lily white complexion, though gains are being made.
