Ksenia Sobchak is running against Putin in the presidential election as an independent candidate. She has criticized Putin on many issues but some believe that she was chosen by the Kremlin to stand as a token opposition candidate as Aleksei Navalny, the most prominent opposition politician, was not allowed to run.

Quote from: Wikipedia
Sobchak has cited the Decembrists, 19th century aristocrats who forfeited their palaces and were sentenced to exile for challenging the ultimate power of the tsar, as one of her inspirations. Some skeptics accuse Sobchak of being a pawn of Putin bent to undermine opposition candidate Aleksei Navalny; the Kremlin often handpicks a high-profile liberal candidate to run in elections as part of its policy of "managed democracy" wherein Putin attempts to control the entire process. Other skeptics suspect Sobchak's candidacy is mostly about building her brand. Sobchak does not believe she can win against Putin in 2018, but has stated she's in it for the long haul: "Of course I want to be president, I want to win, but I also want to be sincere. In a system created by Putin, it is only possible for Putin to win. I am realistic about who will become the president."

He died in 2000, apparently poisoned. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anatoly_Sobchak

To some extent, it's a mutually beneficial relationship between her and Putin where both think they are playing the other. Putin thinks he is promoting an extremely unappealing neo-liberal SJW who could never gain more than 3% of the vote to be the official leader of the opposition. Sobchak thinks this is a foot in the door and that she's controlled opposition now, but she'll be in a good position to take power if Putin somehow gets Soros'd.

There are several different versions of what I call Schrodinger's China:

Tankies/Maoists:
When China is better at something than the US/West, it's because China has remained a Marxist Leninist Utopia true to the PRC's founding principles. When China is worse at something than the US/West, it's because China has deviated from the true path set by Mao and embraced Capitalism, becoming a deformed worker's state.

Traditional Conservatives:
When China is better at something than the US/West, it's because China has fully embraced capitalism. When China is worse at something than the US/West, it's because China is still Communist.

Alt-Rightists/Fascists:
When China is better at something than the US/West, it's because China is a homogenous ethnostate which practices Eugenics and uses the one-child policy to breed super-babies. When china is worse at something than the US/West, it's because China has too much cultural diversity and it's actually Japan that will dominate the 21st Century.
