The Charlotte city council is holding a special meeting at 2pm on Monday to debate hosting the RNC and vote on it.  If they vote yes, then the RNC may well offer it to them later in the week:

Also, Charlotte mayor Vi Lyles says she supports the bid to host the RNC, but will refuse to give a welcoming address to the convention:

Good on Lyles. She’d absolutely be used as propaganda for the GOP, being a black woman.

I also find it comical how much leverage these Council members theoretically have on this convention. The only alternate city is Las vegas, and they don't *have a site selected* for the thing.

I really hope the Council votes it down just to see the GOP scramble to find a spot. Make them recognize they have to own their distinctively anti-urban, anti-diversity agenda

Charlotte City Council agreed to host the RNC on a 6-5 vote (paywall). I have a feeling the councilmember who cast the deciding vote may regret it (or not, this convention could be a non entity in 2020).

While there hasn't been any official press release, sources in the know say that the RNC's site selection committee voted to offer the convention to Charlotte on Wednesday.  The full RNC will reportedly vote on the matter on Friday:

Not a bad choice. Powerful fundraising area, and a Lean to Likely R but still heavily targeted state.

This could backfire. Trump might end up being worried that the Charlotte is another one of his mistresses that he paid hush money for.

Houston has had the biggest presence at the DNC meeting this week:

Both conventions being in the South would be interesting.

Milwaukee would be WAY BETTER of a choice for weather and climate alone. Who tf wants to be in Texas in late summer??? When you can be in a northern city on the coast of a large lake instead?

Yeah but nobody really goes to Milwaukee to vacation. Also, Houston is the 4th most populous city in America. It would be a much bigger spotlight.

I would be fine if the 2020 DNC was held in either Houston or Milwaukee. Definitely not Miami though.

It's probably not going to matter, but I think the optics and politics (also the weather) make Milwaukee a much better choice than Houston (It doesn't seem as though Miami is a serious option)

Hear it's between Houston and Milwaukee with Miami being tossed. Should be Milwaukee, Texas will not be won in 2018 and shoring up the base/people in the Midwest would be a smarter choice overall. Plus weather.

Yeah I'm hoping the Houston thing is just a dog-and-pony show to make it look like the DNC didn't just sign onto Milwaukee months ago (when I'm really hoping they just signed onto Milwaukee months ago).

The DNC was actually in Milwaukee about two weeks ago checking into the city.

For someone from Houston I really hope Houston gets picked.

However if it ever does they'll likely run into identity politics accusations, since Houston is an ethnically diverse city.

Milwaukee has secured financing for the 2020 DNC. Hope they get it!
