Alas tickets have all but sold out in the Baltimore area this week. At least we're planning on going to see it next week. (And I'm super hyped for this. Afrofuturism FTW!)

Really enjoyed the movie. I have a few criticisms that are basically just splitting hairs, but overall I think this is one of the best MCU movies so far.

very average movie made by a studio with no intent on doing anything interesting or original. Feel bad I got suckered into the Marvel hype machine again.

1. Very good cast, especially the women and the antagonist (BP himself delivers and is good, but I think they could have added something more, just not sure what)

2. Definitely more substantial, not as Marvel-jokey

3. I agree with some pacing/CGI issues, but how good the rest of the movie was makes it very easy to brush those complaints aside

It stands on its own, doesn't really seem like a Marvel superhero movie, but in a good way.

Fantastic movie. Going to see it again on President's Day.

What an outstanding cast! The film had a really good message and I saw both sides of the "conflict".

FYI, the theatre I went to had 63 different showings of it scheduled for one day! I have never seen that EVER!

Most mainstream US movies have casts that are overwhelmingly white, so it's nice to see one that's the opposite.

Some spoilers ahead. Good movie, well directed, well acted, but:

• Wakanda is a tragically immoral kingdom that makes little sense even shrouded in utopia. Its citizens either know nothing of racial oppression or are fully aware of it, the latter of which makes their extremist isolationist foreign policy even more disgusting (the country is depicted as being located in the smack-dab middle of Africa).
• There is absolutely nothing in Black Panther that suggests there is anything even bad about living under a monarchy. The smartest and freest people on history of the the planet are apparently fine with having zero voice in the direction of their country, and the right to rule these people and all they possess is determined by the option of bloodsport between a half-dozen members of royalty.
• The CIA is clearly depicted as an evil organization, but a good chunk of the last-third of the movie is asking us to root for one of their agents.
• Killmonger's misogyny and violence against women feels forced as a means of balancing the morality of his character, and the movie does nothing to explain why he is this way compared to the polite and deferential males of Wakanda. Is it because Killmonger is an Americanized black male?
• lmao at the "outreach center" in Oakland

It would make sense for the sake of realism, especially if it takes place many years in the past. Why does it matter what race makes up the majority of the cast?

I’m probably seeing this Saturday. From what I’ve gleaned, the villain is as good as the Joker or Magneto, which intrigued me. A superhero is only as good as his villain.
