I think it's a lot more likely that he wrote in Lindsey Graham or some other Republican.

I can see not just McCain but also Graham, Collins, Murkowski, and Kirk all voting for Hillary, though Graham will never admit it as long as he still has primaries to run in.

I'm pretty sure I remember reading Collins wrote in Paul Ryan and Mike Pence. I assume the other ''moderate'' Republican senators probably did something similar.

Given the statistical influence over a single vote in a presidential election, McCain's vote is almost worthless and  is not needed to be discussed.

We talked about who many of the #NeverTrumpers claim to have voted for in the #NeverTrump megathread:

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=230807.1050

McCain says he wrote in Lindsey Graham’s name.  Most of the others similarly said that they either voted McMullin or wrote in the name of another Republican besides Donald Trump.  Some of them may have actually voted Clinton and lied about it, who knows.  There were a couple of former members of Congress, like Gordon Humphrey, who did say they were voting Clinton, but no current Republican members of Congress admitted so.  Here’s what some of those #NeverTrumpers said about their votes:

Collins: Said she’d probably write in either Jeb Bush or Condoleezza Rice.  Not sure if she ever announced who.
Flake: Said he’d probably vote McMullin, but I don’t recall if he ever 100% confirmed that.
Graham: McMullin
Kasich: wrote in McCain
Kirk: wrote in Colin Powell
Lee: McMullin
McCain: wrote in Graham

Murkowski, Romney, Sasse: They all said they weren't voting for Trump, but I don't remember them ever saying who they would vote for instead.

My favorite though is Toomey.  He wasn't technically #NeverTrump, because he didn't rule out a vote for Trump.  He just wouldn't talk about who he was voting for.  Then the day after the election, when Trump won, Toomey announced that he'd voted for Trump.  Tongue

No. Arizona was not important enough to cast a ballot for the other side. If Trump was losing AZ then he was getting BTFO nationwide. I'm sure he wrote someone in.

I honestly think he did. Its not like anyone would ever know, so what is the point in writing in Lindsey Graham? If he was really that insistent in writing in, I bet he'd write in himself. But I don't think he did that.

Write-in. But he's more likely to have voted for Jill Stein than for Trump.

I mean, he says he wrote in Graham's name.  So I figure either he's telling the truth and he voted Graham, or else he's lying and he voted Clinton.  If he voted for Trump, then he would have just admitted that at the time.

I doubt that a majority of GOP Senators actually voted for Trump.

Actually, Toomey announced on election day itself that he had voted for Trump. Toomey certainly had a pretty unique strategy.

Let's be honest: Sasse and Romney probably voted for themselves.

Why not? As much of a ra(c,p)ist bullsh**t artist that he is, he pretty much is doing what the Republican donors want.

I'll bet he did.

And I'll bet he voted for John Kerry in 2004.

Kerry's opposition to the Iraq war leads me to think he wouldn't have voted for Kerry, but you could be right. I wonder if Ted Cruz was the nominee in 2016 or in 2020 how many R senators wouldn't vote for him.

Kerry and McCain are personal friends.  He would never endorse him, but he would, I believe, vote for Kerry in the privacy of the voting booth.

Not a chance in hell. He would know that someone would check random votes and confirm if there was a vote for Lindsay Graham. He wouldn't be dumb enough to lie about something like that.

Of course, I'm also sure he would vote Hillary if he could go back. His opposition to Trump has really only taken hold strongly since the election, people tend to forget that.

I think it's probably likely that he did.

Also likely is the entire Bush family voting for Hillary.

Reagan would've voted for Hillary too.

Even if I agreed with this, this is certainly not the same as actually voting for Clinton.

No, but it is also very telling.

And Trump isn't a Republican.  And all you morons going along with him have literally killed the GOP.  In 50 years time, the party will be but a speck on the pages of history thanks to this president.
