We talked about who many of the #NeverTrumpers claim to have voted for in the #NeverTrump megathread:

https://uselectionatlas.org/FORUM/index.php?topic=230807.1050

McCain says he wrote in Lindsey Graham’s name.  Most of the others similarly said that they either voted McMullin or wrote in the name of another Republican besides Donald Trump.  Some of them may have actually voted Clinton and lied about it, who knows.  There were a couple of former members of Congress, like Gordon Humphrey, who did say they were voting Clinton, but no current Republican members of Congress admitted so.  Here’s what some of those #NeverTrumpers said about their votes:

Collins: Said she’d probably write in either Jeb Bush or Condoleezza Rice.  Not sure if she ever announced who.
Flake: Said he’d probably vote McMullin, but I don’t recall if he ever 100% confirmed that.
Graham: McMullin
Kasich: wrote in McCain
Kirk: wrote in Colin Powell
Lee: McMullin
McCain: wrote in Graham

Murkowski, Romney, Sasse: They all said they weren't voting for Trump, but I don't remember them ever saying who they would vote for instead.

My favorite though is Toomey.  He wasn't technically #NeverTrump, because he didn't rule out a vote for Trump.  He just wouldn't talk about who he was voting for.  Then the day after the election, when Trump won, Toomey announced that he'd voted for Trump.  Tongue

Write-in. But he's more likely to have voted for Jill Stein than for Trump.

I mean, he says he wrote in Graham's name.  So I figure either he's telling the truth and he voted Graham, or else he's lying and he voted Clinton.  If he voted for Trump, then he would have just admitted that at the time.

I wonder how many times in total McCain has not voted for the GOP nominee. Some people here are suggesting he voted for Kerry in 2004, but what about 2000? I can't imagine him voting for Bush after the nastiness of the 2000 primary.

My instinct would be to assume that most politicians are actually telling the truth with respect to who they voted for.  It's not like a single vote is likely to swing the entire election, and simply voting for the person you publicly said you'd vote for means that you don't have to keep track of which lies you've told.
