I bet they don't play video games in Japan. That's why Japan has so low murder rates.

I wonder how the 4chan Trump supporters take these comments; aren't they pretty enthusiastic gamers?

Yes Trump, the United States is the only country that has video games or movies. And American media is never exported overseas. That's totally the explanation.

Strangest thing about the full quote is that Trump is apparently unaware that movies and video games are already rated by age group.

Can violent movies and video games have an effect on deluded mildy autistic young men?

According to his 16yo girlfriend Mary, 27yo Martin Bryant (Australia's worst mass killer) was "obsessed with teddy bears, dolls and violent videos", and described him as strange but “very, very nice”.

Apparently Bryant who was thought to have Aspergers syndrome, was obsessed with "Chucky" the murderous doll.

https://youtu.be/4YSAlGpGo34

In Norway, Anders Behring Breivik described how he "trained" for the attacks he carried out in Norway using the computer game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

In addition, Breivik was understood to have taken a year off life dedicated just to online gaming. "between the summers of 2006 and 2007, which he devoted to playing another game, World of Warcraft (WoW), "hardcore" full time. He admitted he spent up to 16 hours every day that year playing from his bedroom in his mother's Oslo flat."

Adam Lanza (Sandy Hook) also was into violent video games:

"Law enforcement reportedly discovered a "trove" of violent video games from the shooter's basement, according to Orr, where the 20-year-old spent hours alone, playing with windows blacked out, honing his computer shooting skills."

And undoubtedly, Cruz will have some obsessive lone bedroom activity currently under investigation.

I dont believe the link is causative. I think the common theme here is we have low IQ mildly autistic young men with access to semi-automatic weapons.

Given their social misacceptance, hiding in a dark room playing video games would be their modus operandi regardless of whether they wanted to conduct a mass shooting or not.

Ah yes, here I the Uk we import those same movies and video games, we even help produce them. We share the same media, but lack the regular tragedy. What could possibly be the sustantive difference that causes this disparity 🤔

In all seriousness,  violent media may trigger dangerous impulses in a damaged mind. But as an argument it’s so intellectually dishonest, and a clear diversion tactic. Unstable young men exist in every nation on the planet, and have since Cain bashed Abel’s brains in. The different is that most developed nations don’t make it easier to buy assault weapons than beer. Ugh.

What is this, 1999? This BS is why I was never allowed to play video games as a kid (and why I'm not a gamer in any sense of the word today.)

The weirdest thing about this talking point that I realized even as a kid was that it seems to imply that violent video games and movies don't exist outside of the US.

Never too late to start. I didn't game until I was out of school. I honestly believe people who don't game at all are missing out. You don't even need coordination or be "good" to enjoy a lot of what's out there. A lot of "games" are closer to interactive movies than games, with narrative experiences exceeding most/all of what you can see in a theater.
