What the hell did anyone else do to deserve my help?

I don't see why I should share with people who wronged me in the past, or just ignored me. They made their bed, why shouldn't they lie in it?

Would you like to live in a world where you were treated poorly because you screwed up once?  If not, then don't treat others like that.  Create the world you want to live in.

Actually people scold someone for selfishness when he/she violates any norm. Otherwise, we all are selfish. We have selfish gene in our-self, according to scientist.

But what if the other person only acted the way he or she did because the individual perceived that you wronged him or her first?  And then once you wrong that person then for sure that person will perceive a justification for wronging you.  Why perpetuate a vicious cycle when you can just forgive instead?

Would there be people who wronged you in the past if they weren't selfish?

Perhaps a deeper question is: can altruism be selfish?

Well, in the New Testament itself there is a very real incentive given to be altruistic (being paid 100-fold), so I think the answer is clearly yes.

Being selfish isn't inherently wrong. We need to be selfish to survive. But doing bad things for selfish reasons is the problem.

Both selfishness and selflessness are good, in moderation.

This is actually one of my arguments against a dictatorship, that people aren't angels.  Thanks for allowing me to segue a little!

Being selfish is necessary for humans because it's a human thing. We're all conditioned to focus on our needs before others. But, humans have this AMAZING ability to become selfless. Because we can choose to be selfless in most cases in order to help others, it is often seen as morally "wrong" to choose to put our own interests first and thus help only ourselves.
Idk tho, man. Humans are weird.

There are flaws with altruism, but there are also immense flaws with egoistical ethics. If a person is "selfish" or "egoistic" enough, without limits, then where does this end? Murder? Rape? They both maximize an individual's happiness, yet they neglect the happiness of the collective ESPECIALLY the individual victims. So, while focusing on the collective, and neglecting one's self is an evil, which gives life no purpose - there is immense trouble with looking only to one's self for maximizing one's own benefit.

Because these people generally want you to do things that serve them regardless of how they treat you and are willing to guilt trip you into it by convincing you that you are a bad person if you don't. If I want to help someone I do so because I personally want to as no one has ever deserved my help.
