They were, at the time, trying to translate Marion Marechal-Le Pen's blatant anti-Semitism onto Democrats with the usual "Nazis = national SOCIALISTS, therefore socialists are Nazis (and, by the way, Democrats are socialists)" nonsense. Of course, now Marechal-Le Pen has also spoken at CPAC, so the tweet looks especially ridiculous.

They keep distorting history because deep down they still want the deplorable vote and so continue to walk on eggshells around them. They genuinely think its still possible to return to the days when they whipped up hysteria to boost turnout and then ignored them once in power.

To be fair Panzerbaby is much closer to movement conservatism than Panzergirl. Marion Le Pen is the old 1970s FN ("Reaganite before Reagan" on economic issues) while Marine Le Pen is more like the new, much less pro-market FN that appealed to displaced former Socialists in Northern France (or she atleast pretends to be, it's always hard to know how much right-wing populists care about their economic platform).

Still terrible, but at this rate the only European politicians who want to speak at CPAC or so are far-right politicians (and perhaps some Brexiteer Tories). In the 2000s or even in 2012 you had the occasional European centre-right politician who defended whoever the Republican nominee and/or travelled to the RNC because the Republican Party actually is a sister party of the CDU/CSU/insert European conservatives, but now really nobody wants to defend the Republicans. They've even lost Hans van Baalen .
