I just noticed this now, but does anyone else think Madura looks vaguely like a fatter, tanner reincarnation of one Mr. Iosef Vissarionovich Dzhughashvili?

These turnout numbers are completely meaningless and part of a silly dick-measuring contest between the regime and its opponents, with the former claiming large turnout and the former claiming minuscule turnout (ie. an opposition-aligned pollster has 16% turnout at 3 p.m.). Given the CNE's legendary transparency and the regime's thirst for a big turnout, they'll likely massage the numbers, presumably to get turnout above 50%.

For reference, in last summer's fake constituent assembly elections, the official turnout was reported at over 41% while the opposition claimed less than 20%.

*Ding ding ding* We have a winner!

Turnout in wealthy area very low and higher in poorer areas.  Things are working the way Maduro planned it.

I guess poor people are (still) more pro-Maduro than Venezuela at large?

Oh, most definitely. The poorer the area, the more likely it is for it's population to vote for Maduro.

Only the CNE (National Electoral Council) is allowed to post the results, and they'll only do it once most of the votes (and I mean like more than 90% of them) have been counted, and only after they announce the results on national TV.

I'll post the results page once it goes live.

Electoral Board source says turnout was 32.3% as of 6PM which is lower than private estimates.

Why the hell do people boycott elections? The boycotters here are even more idiotic than the Maudro voters, they've just thrown away a technically winnable election  GO OUT AND VOTE PEOPLE, BOYCOTTS MEAN NOTHING!

Falcón just stated that he is not going to recognize the results. Complained about unfavorable conditions.

That would make sense if the election was actually fair, but it isn't.

The main opposition party was banned, the candidates allowed into the election (that are not Maduro) are all Chavistas or former Chavistas (even Falcon), there's widespread bribery, violence, fraud and any electoral law violation necessary to the regime, the National Electoral Council is staffed with Maduro loyalists and the list just goes on and on. And that without accounting for the fact that the actual result is irrelevant considering that Maduro has no plans to relinquish power.

Why should they legitimize a fraudulent election by showing up to the polls if the results are going to be made up no matter what?

CNE has trotted out old Tibi, announcing 46-48% turnout with the 'irreversible' result of Maduro over 5 million votes, Falcón a bit over 1 million and Bertucci with apparently some 900,000.

Turnout must really have been catastrophically low if they couldn't even fudge it over 50%. Maduro's total vote is significantly less than what it was in 2013.

edit: Maduro 5.8 million, Falcón 1.8 million.

I think the better question is a what point the inevitable civil war happens.

I'd say large scale riots across the nation are more likely, although that easily could escalate.

Even if these results are falsified or the result of voters constrained by the regime's criminal gangs or various fraudulent schemes, they couldn't even get a 'great triumph'

2018: 6,205,875
2015 (Parl.): 5,622,844
2013: 7,587,579 (Maduro)
2012: 8,191,132 (Chávez)

Sad!

I notice that the CNE's webpage doesn't include the results of the expat vote (where it could take place). Perhaps the turnout abroad was too minuscule to even be falsified with a straight face (and how embarrassing would it be to admit that Venezuelan refugees aren't enamoured with the great anti-imperialist revolution?).

While turnout abroad was likely very, very low, this is definitely not the reason. There are probably millions of Venezuelans abroad (some estimates say that there are about 1.5 to 4 millions), yet only 110 thousand of them are registered to vote. And the CNE has previously shown the expat vote where the opposition candidate absolutely crushes the chavista candidate.

It's probably either a mistake, or the CNE just wants to mess with the voters abroad by not recognizing them.

For more evidence of which countries' governments are ragingly hypocritical, check out who thinks this election is just fine: Antigua and Barbuda, Belarus, Bolivia, China, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Iran, Nicaragua, North Korea, Russia, Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Syria and Turkey. VERY disappointed in the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (then again, they're basically a semi-authoritarian machine run by the Byrd dynasty) and the Unity Labour Party of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines for signing off on this crap. Everyone else is pretty much as expected. Tongue

Torino Capital chief economist Francisco Rodriguez write that Exit polls conducted by Gente de Mercado on behalf of opposition candidate Henri Falcon’s campaign show President Nicolas Maduro won the May 20 election, albeit by a smaller margin than reported by authorities.

The exit pollshowed Maduro won 48.6% of votes compared with Falcon’s 30.0% and Javier Bertucci’s 18.0%.  Falcon campaign doesn’t allege vote-rigging but rather that Maduro campaign engaged in vote-buying through cash bonuses.
