It's often thought of as one German wave from 1830-1890, but there were peaks in the 1850s and 1880s.

What were the differences between the two waves?  More Bavarian vs. more Prussian?  More rural vs. more urban?  More lower Midwest vs. upper Midwest?  More Catholic vs. more Protstant?
